Ebony, Fern, and Faye are three young Australian girls who all live with HCN1 disorder, a medical condition which typically causes epileptic seizures, intellectual disability, developmental delays and problems with vision. For most patients with HCN1 disorder, there are no effective medications that can treat all of their symptoms. Despite the challenges they face in their day to day lives, Ebony, Fern and Faye, and their families, all approach life with positivity and hope for the future. You can make a difference by donating today to The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health.
The Florey Institute is one of the few places worldwide currently researching new and better ways to treat HCN1 disorder. Wonderfully, Florey scientists Professor Chris Reid and Dr Lauren Bleakley and their colleagues have already had some success with this project, when in 2023 they published a paper describing which anti-seizure medications were most effective in HCN1 patients. The researchers have an ambitious next goal to develop a new genetic therapy for HCN1 disorder, which offers the promise of being more effective than any currently available medications.
Unfortunately, however, this research is currently not funded. Your tax-deductible donations would go directly to the Reid Laboratory at The Florey to allow Chris, Lauren and their colleagues to take this important next step in their research, with a long-term goal of developing improved treatments for patients like Ebony, Fern, and Faye.
We thank you for your kind and generous support. Every contribution makes a meaningful difference.
