The Christi Center

Last week the Christi Center experienced a devastating setback: our brand-new A/C unit for our annex was stolen—just days after installation. This wasn’t just a loss of equipment—the lack of A/C disrupted critical programming for grieving children and adults at a time when demand for our services is at an all-time high.

We urgently need to install a secure fence around the annex to safeguard our healing spaces and replace the A/C unit before the summer heat arrives.

The Christi Center is a little house on Hancock Drive. We've been a member of the Allendale neighborhood for 38 years. You might have seen our Heart sign passing by and wondered what we offer.

Since 1985, the Christi Center has provided free, ongoing, peer-based grief support to thousands of community members in Central Texas. In the past five years alone, we've seen a 556% increase in intake calls as more people seek support after the death of a loved one.

We’ve responded by expanding in-person and virtual groups, offering individual counseling for grieving kids, and started Camp Zebra, a week-long experience to help children heal through connection and creativity. Behind every group is a small but dedicated team of clinicians, counseling interns, and trained volunteers—many of whom have experienced loss and now walk beside others on the path toward healing.

The annex is a vital part of our campus and home to our Kids Who Care (KWC) program. The theft leaves us unable to host essential parts of our programming, including the community dinners we provide before each KWC session. These meals are more than just food, they ease the burden for grieving families juggling daily responsibilities, which sets the tone for a supportive evening of healing for both children and their caregivers.

We are further unable to host in the annex for our growing adult Mixed Loss groups. This comes at a time when more people than ever are turning to us for support. As summer approaches, a season that often intensifies feelings of isolation for those grieving, we face not having a reliable, climate-controlled space, which limits our ability to serve those who need us most.

This act of theft has tested us operationally, financially, and emotionally—but it also reminds us of something powerful: why we exist, and why we keep going.

We have always been here for others, but today, we are the ones in need.

We're asking for help from community members, supporters, and anyone who believes in our mission. Your donation will be used to install a fence on our property and ensure the Christi Center continues its services as the demand for grief support services grows.
