Honoring Laura Robinson’s Legacy

Laura Robinson was a beloved friend, teammate, and leader in the Brooklyn billiard community. Many of us met Laura through Angry Wade’s and the APA pool league, where her competitive spirit and love for the game brought people together week after week. As captain of our team, Damn It All To Hell, Laura kept us engaged, laughing, and always striving to do our best. Her passion for pool was matched only by her ability to connect with others—she could start a conversation with anyone and was always there for friends in need. Laura also worked in publishing, loved to travel, and was a dedicated Patriots fan who rarely missed a Sunday game.

Laura’s passing at a young age after a long battle with breast cancer has left a deep void in our lives. Because many of us in Brooklyn were unable to attend her memorial, we’ve come together to remember her with the Laura Robinson “Monster Mash” scotch-doubles pool tournament. This event will be held on Saturday November 8th (12pm) at The Dram Shop. Her family has expressed their desire for all the money we raise, both through the tournament and this gofundme, to be donated directly to cancer research. Here is some information about the charity we’ve selected:

Founded in 1993 by Evelyn Lauder, Breast Cancer Research Foundation ’s (BCRF) mission is to prevent and cure breast cancer by advancing the world’s most promising research. BCRF is the largest breast cancer charity in the country dedicated solely to supporting research. They currently fund 275 researchers focused on specific areas of breast cancer as a complex disease, including:

•Heredity and ethnicity

•Lifestyle and prevention

Through this fundraiser, we hope to honor Laura’s legacy of friendship, leadership, and support. By sharing her story and raising awareness about breast cancer, we aim to bring our community together and make a meaningful impact in her memory. Laura’s humor, kindness, and unwavering support for others will be missed, but her spirit will live on in all of us.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This past August, I lost my aunt to stage four breast cancer. She dedicated her entire life helping others spending three decades as a Habilitation Specialist for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. To honor her memory of helping others, I’m hosting a 90-minute Orangetheory Fitness class on Saturday, October 18th at 7:30 AM.

A $15 minimum donation secures your spot, but any additional support is deeply appreciated. All proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

My cousin, Mary Kuper, is one of the funniest, sharpest, and kindest people I know. Her energy is absolutely infectious; she lights up every room she walks into.

On June 14th, Mary was diagnosed with stage 1B invasive ductal carcinoma on the left side. She’s only 29. As you can imagine, receiving this news has been, to put it mildly, a whirlwind of hell. But in true Mary form, she’s facing this life-altering chapter with humor, bravery, and determination.

In Mary’s honor, Ben and I are taking on a Virtual Everest: climbing 29,029 feet on Zwift to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). BCRF runs groundbreaking studies that lead to new treatments and prevention strategies for cancer. For many young survivors, BCRF has been more than just a research organization; it’s been a source of strength, connection, and hope. Their work funds groundbreaking studies while also supporting the emotional and mental challenges of survivorship.

Our goal is to raise $5K+ in Mary’s name to support RMHC’s mission. Please consider donating whatever you can; every dollar truly makes a difference. Extra credit for the cyclists out there who want to join us for part (or maybe all?) of our 12+ hours of climbing on December 31st. We’ll have a Discord running throughout the ride to stay connected, and yes, we’re absolutely taking music recommendations.

Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Through Lacrosse

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as a program, we felt it was important to step up and make a difference. Breast cancer affects so many lives, whether it's family, friends, or members of our community, and we wanted to show our support both on and off the field.

That’s why we’ve launched an initiative to raise awareness and funds throughout the month of October. All of our players will be wearing pink socks during our games to show solidarity with those affected by breast cancer. Beyond that, from October 11th through October 19th, for every goal our teams score in our box league games, we will be donating $5 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
