A Brighter Future

After settling in Iraqi Kurdistan in 2014, I decided to volunteer my time to bring touches of color, poetry, and happiness to the Syrian Refugee Camp of Arbat, which is hosting thousands of families who fled from the civil war horrors in the neighboring Syria.
Together with the youth of the camp, we painted more than 50 murals (7'x7') inspired by children's drawings.
Working with them everyday, I realized that teenagers were the ones struggling the most, with very little to do and bleak hopes for after high school graduation.
That is why I decided to launch a scholarship fund for the purpose of financing their undergraduate studies in the American University of Iraq in Sulaymaniyah (AUIS) located 25 miles away from the camp.
My goal is to offer the bright young adults of the Camp a chance to receive a top-notch education for a successful future that would also help their families and, in a larger perspective, their country.
The annual fees at AUIS range from $6,000 to $9,000 depending on academic performance. This includes tuition, lodging and books. Our students will stay at AUIS for five years because they need a transitional year to get back on track after the disturbances caused by war.
Please join me in turning this ambitious project into reality by participating in the campaign.
Thank you, Florence Robichon
