MARATHON NO.43; GREATER MANCHESTER FOR AGAINST MALARIA FNDTN
My 43rd marathon takes me to Greater Manchester. This week’s run is for the Against Malaria Foundation (AMF), a charity working to protect families in Africa and beyond from one of the world’s deadliest but preventable diseases: malaria.
What is the struggle?
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people die from malaria—most of them children under the age of five in Africa. The disease spreads quickly, especially in poor or rural areas, and without protection or access to treatment, families are left incredibly vulnerable. What makes this so heartbreaking is that malaria is preventable, and the simplest tool—a mosquito net—can save lives.
Why am I running for this cause?
Because no child should die from a mosquito bite. Something as basic as a safe night’s sleep under a protective net can mean the difference between life and death. I’ve never had to worry about malaria of course, but for millions of families in Africa, it’s a daily fear. Running for AMF is my way of helping to turn that fear away.
What is the Against Malaria Foundation and what do they do?
AMF is one of the most effective charities in the world when it comes to saving lives. They fund and distribute long-lasting insecticidal nets across Africa and other malaria-affected regions. Working with governments and local partners, AMF ensures nets reach the communities most in need and tracks their use to make sure they are protecting as many lives as possible.
Your donation directly saves lives:
• £2 is enough to buy and distribute a bed net.
• £10 protects five people from malaria.
• £50 helps shield an entire household for years.
• £100 provides nets for a whole village community.
Please donate to the Against Malaria Foundation and help protect families in Africa from a disease that should no longer be taking lives. For more info: www.againstmalaria.com
