Due to the ongoing evaluation of Peppermint at NVC-Nederland, I needed to adjust the fundraising amount due to her extensive injuries. Sweet Life Rescue Center has now taken over due to high cost. The current estimate for hospitalization and surgeries is $10k.

Peppermint was tortured. Her Xrays show she was shot in the back of the head, then dumped from a car - this was after they suspect something like a bat was used to cause older fractures in her bones.

She has metal in the base of her skull from the bullet. Her jaw and nose is detached from mouth due to hitting the ground when dumped (they see this injury in dogs dumped from moving cars). She is extremely dehydrated. Numerous broken bones, including broken ribs.

We don’t want to give up on her and are helping her fight. We already paid the deposit to get her treatment going and hospitalized.

Update 2/27:  We just received the final invoice for Lillian and the rescue paid her bill in full (it’s attached). She is doing great at her Foster’s house - she is enjoying a comfy bed and unlimited pets. Even went on a very short potty walk and wagged her tail. We are continuing to raise funds to offset her bill and to help with what we have to do next - treat her heartworms. Not only was she used for breeding, she also was not on heartworm preventative. We don’t know the extent of the damage to her heart yet.

Lillian made it through surgery last night and is in recovery! I’ve switched this to a gofundme as the fb one was having issues (you do not need to re-donate, thank you to those that already donated!). We are hoping she can go to her foster home this afternoon! We are still a ways off from the $4,416 estimate so we are continuing to fundraise to offset the unexpected cost to save this sweet girl.

Earlier this evening, I got a message from an ER Vet tech about a poor 8 year old petite female pittie mix that was at the ER with symptoms of pyometra. The dog had symptoms for five days prior to ever being brought in and a 105 fever.

Do you know how you prevent pyometra? You spay the dog. Instead of spaying this dog, she was bred over and over for money. Now that she is ill, the owner decided she wasn’t worth the cost of the surgery (nor did they bother to find other options) and elected to have her euthanized instead. AND didn’t want to stay with her - they just left.

Thankfully, Sweet Life Rescue Center (a partner of Lola's Lucky Day) has offered to help this sweet girl get the surgery she needs to live. I’m raising funds for them to help offset the cost. Sweet Life Rescue Center is a registered 501c3 charity!

The surgery is estimated at $4,416. Any donation helps, no matter how small!

The vet where she is getting her emergency surgery done is Veterinary Emergency Group - they are also accepting donations over the phone .

We have named her Lillian, in honor of Lily.

My name is Samantha and in August 2023 my family purchased 3 acres of unrestricted land in Splendora TX to build a rescue center on. We have fostered for the nonprofit Lola's Lucky Day since 2015 and have been rescuing animals since 2011. I converted my current home to foster many animals but we have since outgrown this space and want to build something BIGGER!

Our plans are to constructed a 1,200 sq ft rescue kennel (barndominium style) that will be outfitted with at least 14 walk in kennels. This building will have it's own private play yard that is 1,500 sq ft for the pups to run and play. Additionally we will hope to be the recipient of a shipping container style kennel that has 6 indoor/outdoor runs.

With this space we can help an estimated 350 animals a year. We will still be partnered with other local nonprofits to facilitate the adoption of the lucky pups staying with us.

In addition to fostering animals we hope to create a program called Herbie's House in honor or Herbie and his owner. This program would support our veterans who want to enter PTSD rehabilitation but have no where for their pet to go during this time. We would offer FREE emergency boarding in order for them to keep their pet and get the help they need. We are inspired to do this work in honor of Herbie who stayed with our family for 6 months while his best friend and veteran attended the CAMP HOPE PTSD rehabilitation program.

We have so many great things planned for this property and we are excited to get started on our construction. Once we hit our fundraising goal we can get this project started. I know this is a heft goal but we have a huge family of friends and supporters that believe in this mission!
