Support Advocacy & Resource Center

Hi I'm Nancy Kintner-Meyer and I am running the London Marathon this October, and would like to ask your help in raising $10,000 for The Support, Advocacy and Resources Center (SARC) to help young victims of trafficking and exploitation.

At 65, I am close to reaching my running goal of completing all 6 Abbots Marathon Majors (Chicago, New York City, Boston, Berlin, London and Tokyo). This October, I will be running the London Marathon 2021—the 5th Abbots marathon I will have completed. This has been a long 10+-year journey, and my hope is to use my race to highlight the work SARC undertakes in our community to help children and youth that are victims of trafficking and/or child exploitation.

Trafficking of children and youth is a serious problem in our community. In fact, according to the Tri-City Herald, the annual Boat Races are considered the Super Bowl of the Tri-Cities where trafficking is very prevalent. In 2019-2020, more than 40 percent of the trafficking victims SARC served were age 18 and under. This is far too many of our children falling into exploitation! Thanks to the work of SARC, these children and youth, along with adults (both women and men) can receive help, such as counseling services; finding temporary shelter; obtaining food, clothing and shoes; and advocacy through the legal system.

With my run this October at the London Marathon, I am hoping to “Shine the Light” on trafficking and exploitation of the young victims in our community. I would like to ask for your donation to my #RunToShineTheLight/London2021 campaign. As an incentive, to those businesses and individuals donating $1,000 or more, I will include your logo or company name on the running shirt I will wear in the marathon. In addition, donors of $1,000 or more will receive a photo from the marathon Expo with me wearing the #RunToShineTheLight/London2021 shirt with donor logos.

Last January, SARC was fortunate to receive a competitive grant that allowed them to create a position-specific for victims of child pornography and child sexual exploitation.  The advocate does a lot of work with victims identified through ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children).  Just last year the advocate worked with 73 children in our community.  Additionally, through this work, SARC has determined that intervention at this stage of victimization is decreasing the number of these kids who become trafficked.

This position is losing funding and I believe that you share with me the belief it is critical for the children in our community who are victimized by predators and those that exploit them.  

Please join me to help raise funds in order to allow this important work to continue. Funds raised will pay this advocate's salary to continue this difficult work.
