Straight Up Abilities

June 5-12 - Michelle and her dance team have been invited to perform on the national stage at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games at Disney World Florida.

My sister, Janet aka Janny, loves to dance and she has always dreamed of being a performer. At a young age, my parents signed her up with Straight Up Abilities (SUA), a non-profit dance company for students of ALL abilities. It has truly changed her life and ours for the better! We are so thankful that because of SUA Janny has formed life-long friendships and is part of a community that supports her dreams.

She is the most talented person I know and her confidence just makes it that much more impressive. Exhibit A - here is an example of Janny jumping into an impromptu dance at Universal Studios Hollywood and KILLIN' IT!

 

 

This summer, Janet's dance team has been invited to perform at Walt Disney World for the Special Olympics in June 2022. Our family wants to make this happen for her and her friends, so we are creating this GoFundMe to help make this happen! All funds will go to Straight Up Abilities to help pay for the team's flight, hotel, transportation, and memories to last for a lifetime.

 

In return, Janny wants to draw each of her donors an original JD art piece. For those who don't know, Janny is also very artistic and has been practicing drawing and coloring during the pandemic. Of course, SHE IS REALLY GOOD AT IT! So if you donate, please let me know who your favorite Disney character is, and soon you will have a JD original in your mailbox! :)

Us Against The WorldI am reaching out on behalf of Straight Up Abilities (SUPA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through the performing arts. We have an extraordinary opportunity to perform at the Royal Ballet in London and Disneyland Paris with our All-Star Performance Dance Team, and we need your support to make this dream a reality.

Our trip is scheduled from February 18 to February 25, 2025. During this time, our itinerary includes flying from LAX to Heathrow, exploring London, participating in a workshop with The Royal Ballet, and performing at The Paul Hamlyn Hall. We will then travel to Paris for a workshop and performance at Disneyland Paris before returning to LAX. The estimated cost per student is $3750 and we expect to have at least 20 students joining us on this trip.

SUPA envisions a world where diversity and creativity are valued, inspiring unity and enabling all to thrive. Our All-Star Dance Team members, who have intellectual and physical disabilities, have performed at prestigious events like the Special Olympics and Disney World, demonstrating their exceptional talents. This trip will provide them with an invaluable experience and help spread our message of inclusion and empowerment on an international stage.

They prove that no matter your abilities or disabilities, you can persevere and live life to the fullest. These dedicated dancers meet weekly to practice their craft. They perform at Special Olympics, Music Center, Aquarium of the Pacific, Abilities Expo, etc. And now they are to perform at Disneyland this February 15th and 16th. We are asking for help to continue to make magic happen. These exceptional individuals teach us all to stay positive and be kind. Their energy on stage permeates through the crowd, and the audience leaves feeling inspired.
