Our funding target was set to fund an entire year of operations in Nepal. With full funding, we’d reach 15,000+ Students, 1000+ Teachers and 20% of schools in Nepal; and we'd set up STEM Labs for 30 Schools in different geography of Nepal. Most importantly, we are trying to work with the local government on matching funds to set up STEM Labs in the local schools.

From 2008-2016 when I was a high school science teacher and later CEO/principal of a private high school in Kathmandu, Nepal, only a few of my students wanted to stay in their home country because of the lack of opportunity and training available for them to thrive here. Instead, they looked for opportunities to make their dreams a reality elsewhere. Among them was my wife, who recently graduated from New York University in Biotechnology. The sheer frustration of feeling like I was not making enough change for my students as a classroom teacher and the pain of a long-distance relationship with my spouse drove me to establish STEM Foundation Nepal. Two like-minded, passionate visionaries joined me in launching the organization. We have traveled to the West and gained meaningful global experiences firsthand – and we’ve brought those tremendous opportunities to the children of Nepal.

 

Since we established STEM Foundation Nepal in 2017, our primary goals have been to introduce STEM Education into National and Provincial Education policies, bring STEM learning to all students in rural classrooms, and prepare outstanding youth to compete in International Olympiads. In a short time, we have successfully implemented policy intervention and Olympiads outreach; we have already started working with 110+ rural schools to build and support STEM labs.

When I quit my job as the principal of a private high school to make the vision of STEM Foundation Nepal a reality, I knew that I’d need the support of multiple partners, mentors and sponsors who believed in the importance of education and STEM education as much as I do.

 

Our work is just starting, and we are thankful for the support of mentors worldwide, including Dr. Bonnie Schmidt, founder of Let's Talk Science in Canada, who believe in the work we do every day. Our greatest hope and confidence may be best demonstrated by our volunteers' many hours designing and implementing STEM programs across Nepal.

STEM Global Network is a charitable organization registered in the USA to connect STEM Educators, Innovators and Enthusiasts from all over the world and support STEM organizations in the developing world- starting in Nepal. So, this fundraising campaign is typically for Nepal.

The funds will be used to set up STEM Labs in schools, provide STEM programming for youth in and outside schools, train teachers, grow participation of Nepalese students in International Olympiads and more. Please visit our website for more information.
