Starfish Animal Rescue’s Transport Sprinter Van—the lifeline of our mission—was recently involved in a serious accident that resulted in the vehicle being completely totaled. This van isn’t just transportation; it’s how hope moves. Every other week, it carries us across miles to save animals who have nowhere else to go, bringing them from overcrowded, dangerous situations to safety, medical care, and a real chance at a new life.

At the time of the crash, 64 animals and our dedicated rescue team were on board. By sheer grace, every person and every animal walked away alive. We are endlessly grateful that there were no injuries—but the loss of this vehicle has brought our lifesaving work to a sudden halt.

Without this Sprinter, we cannot continue our regular rescue transports. That means animals who were counting on us may be left behind, and time is something many of them don’t have.

We are asking for help to replace this critical vehicle so we can get back on the road—back to saving lives, back to being the bridge between suffering and safety. Every donation, every share, brings us one step closer to rescuing the next van full of animals who are still waiting.

We are a 501c3 Animal Rescue. The mission of Starfish Animal Rescue is to rescue animals from high-kill shelters, provide transportation of these animals to secure, non-kill establishments, to promote and facilitate responsible pet ownership, and to intervene in cases of animal cruelty. In addition, we provide safe, clean, and efficient transportation of animals in danger of being euthanized before their time expires at their shelter. Education to the communities around high-kill shelters about proper animal healthcare and the long-term benefits of spaying and neutering. Low-cost or free spay and neuter options through our affiliate Spay-It-Forward and Hip to Snip programs. We provide vaccines and medications to high-kill shelters in order to prevent the onset and spread of diseases. And so much more.

We need your help! We are struggling, as the need far outweighs our current resources. We are in danger of turning animals away that are in desperate need of our help!

Help Starfish Animal Rescue Continue Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Clinics for  Breathitt, Letcher, Knott and Perry Counties in Kentucky!

At Starfish Animal Rescue, we believe that saving one animal may not change the world, but it changes the world for that one animal. Every day, we work to make a difference in the lives of animals in the Southeast Kentucky Area — a region where access to affordable veterinary care is often limited or nonexistent.

We’re raising funds to purchase a Mobile Veterinary Vehicle that will allow us to continue low-cost spay and neuter services directly to these underserved communities. We are in danger of discontinuing our Hip to Snip program due to new regulations regarding licensing clinics. A mobile veterinary vehicle solves our licensing problem and will help us reduce pet overpopulation to combat the number of animals in the shelter, prevent needless suffering, and support responsible pet ownership in rural areas that need it most.

Why a Mobile Vet Vehicle?

• Many pet owners in this region face financial barriers to accessing care. The Banfield Grant that we have obtained enables residents to pay only $15 or $20 for a spay or neuter in Breathitt, Letcher, Knott and Perry Counties of Kentucky.

• Spay and neuter services are crucial to controlling stray and unwanted animal populations.

• A mobile clinic solves the problem of new government regulations on Spay and Neuter Clinic locations going into effect July 1,2025.
