St.Gemma's Hospice

In February, I will be taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro alongside Adam and Josh. At 19,341 feet (5,895 metres), it’s Africa’s highest mountain and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. For reasons that are still unclear, we’ve decided this is a good idea.

The climb takes eight days and passes through five different climate zones, from tropical rainforest to an arctic summit. Temperatures can drop to minus 20 degrees, oxygen levels are around 50% of those at sea level, and common side effects include exhaustion, headaches, and questioning all of your life choices. It’s a serious physical and mental challenge.

I’m doing this in memory of my Grandma, Una, who recently passed away.

Una dedicated many years of her life to caring for and supporting others at St Gemma’s Hospice, where she served as Head Nurse. It’s a place that perfectly reflects who she was as a person compassionate, selfless, and always thinking of others. She spent her life helping people through the hardest moments imaginable, usually without ever making a fuss about it.

All donations raised will go directly to St Gemma’s Hospice to help them continue their incredible work supporting patients and families when they need it most.

Every donation, big or small, truly makes a difference and will also help justify why we’re voluntarily walking uphill for eight days in freezing temperatures.

On 5th April 2026, I’ll be taking on a huge personal challenge: running a half-marathon 21.1km/13.1 miles. I will be running it with my mate Jamie.

This isn’t just about the distance — it’s about pushing myself beyond my comfort zone and using the challenge to raise money for St Gemma’s Hospice. Every km/mile I run will be powered by the generosity, encouragement, and support of people like you.

Training for a half-marathon takes months of early mornings, long runs, sore legs, and plenty of mental determination. Knowing that each step is helping to make a difference gives those tough training days real purpose.

Hi all, after a random Friday in salon this idea arose. We are having a Christmas pyjama day Friday 12th December in order to raise money for St Gemma’s.

St Gemmas is a wonderful charity I’m sure many of us have had involvement with in one way or another. My Friday team will be no doubt sweating cobs blow drying in their pjs but it’s all abit of fun and for a brilliant cause and even better if any clients wanted to come in their jammies too! Lynn Hunt has recently been diagnosed with breast and bone cancer. Lynn is a pillar of our community at our business center Radius, Leeds. She is beloved by our tenants and colleagues and known for her infectious laugh and personality. When we found out she had been recently diagnosed we wanted to come together to show her how much we care and raise money for a charity of her choice. We will be running the Abbey Dash on the 30th November 2025.
