November 2025 Cyclone Ditwah left a path of destruction across Sri Lanka. More than 350 people have lost their lives and more than 350 others are still missing. Over 20,000 homes have been destroyed, forcing 108,000 people into state run temporary shelters. A third of the country is now without electricity or running water, and communities are facing an urgent humanitarian crisis.

We are working directly with trusted partners on the ground in Sri Lanka to understand the most immediate needs and to plan the most effective way to allocate funds and resources. Every contribution will go toward direct relief for families who have been affected by this natural disaster.

Your donations will help provide emergency food, clean drinking water, medical assistance, temporary shelter, and essential supplies for those who have lost everything. With your support, SLANY will continue to help in the rebuilding effort of assisting families that have lost their homes and livelihoods as the immediate wave of support dies down. WHO WE ARE

Sri Lanka Association of New York SLANY, the oldest Sri Lankan association in the United States is a community organization that serves the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The association was established in 1970 to promote the general welfare of Sri Lankans residing in the United States of America and those interested in the nation of Sri Lanka, to establish a meeting ground and foster social activities in the community. SLANY further provides an active and enduring interest in Sri Lanka by providing historical, cultural, religious and other non-political information.

Sri Lanka Association of New York (SLANY) is organizing the singing of devotional songs (Bakthi Gee) for 'Poson'. Poson is the festival that commemorates the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. SLANY hopes to raise funds through this effort for the following needy Organizations in Sri Lanka.

Thapowanaya Orphanage

This is a monastery, orphanage, and meditation center near Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Thapowanaya means "Forest Monastery". This orphanage provides shelter, food, education, and recreation for forty boys who are orphans. Budu Puth Mapiya Surakum Sanvidanaya

This charitable organization is managed by the Maha Vihara, Maha Pirivena at Asgiriya, Kandy, Sri Lanka. The funds raised will be used for providing medical and financial assistance to needy families.
