Spruce Forest Artisan Village Inc

On April 8, 2020, a severe storm ripped through Spruce Forest Artisan Village in Grantsville, MD. No one was hurt, but some of the historic cabins and art studios were destroyed.  Thankfully most of the structures survived with some damage and are able to be restored.  A great many of the stately old Spruce trees were smashed and uprooted. We miss these glorious Spruce trees and the feeling of peace and calm in the forest. Maybe we now need to replace that feeling of calm, with the noise of activity and join together as a new generation of community helpers. As soon as it is safe we hope to replant, repair, and restore this treasure in our mountain home. It was a strong feeling of community that built Spruce Forest Artisan Village. Inspired by the vision of Alta Schrock, local volunteers and arts enthusiasts brought in the buildings and donated much time and effort in their restoration. 

 

We need a new generation of those helpers.

 

Thank you to everyone who has shared in our true sadness about this catastrophe.  We have ways for people to do something. Many can volunteer, help us raise money for repairs, or help buy a new Spruce tree. This charity fund exists to recover what we can of the peace and majesty of this place and helps all the artisans get back into their studios to continue a fine tradition of art creation here in the mountains of Western Maryland.
