Spero House Niles is GROWING!
Join Spero House in a movement to make Southwestern Michigan a better place for those who are struggling within our community. We have outgrown our current space! In order to continue to help individuals struggling with homelessness, addiction, and hunger we need room to grow and need YOUR support to do it! YOU can help create community for those who have none! YOU can help feed the hungry! YOU can be an agent for change!
Spero House opened its doors for the first time in March of 2020 - just as the first Covid-19 lockdowns were beginning to be implemented. Though the uncertainties of the year definitely presented some unexpected hurdles, working through those challenges has also highlighted the needs of our community and where Spero House fits into the city of Niles.

In just one year's time, Spero House passed out over 70 Covid relief food boxes, held a community free sale, supported local restaurants and individuals in Niles with 100+ holiday gift bags, and even partnered with the city to hand out homemade Thanksgiving meals for those who might otherwise go hungry.

And while all of those community events have surely been a blessing to the people of Niles, our weekly Coffee, Bagels and Community nights and our once a month Taco Tuesdays are where Spero House really shines. Spero opens each Tues & Wed evening to offer not only basic necessities (clothes, hygiene kits, nonperishable food items, etc), but also a warm bite to eat, and an invitation to stay for some connection. With the life and ministry of Jesus as our model, we aim to get to know and love each individual who enters through our doors. It is through this intentional building of relationships that we have been able to see dozens of individuals begin to fight and break off addiction, discover their worth, enter into programs and invite healing into their lives. This is the passion of the Spero House team and we cannot wait to see even more of this in the year to come!
As we look to our next year of ministry, we accept that in order to meet the needs of those we serve, we will require a larger ministry home. Our current location at 24 N. 4th Street has served us well, but as we begin to set goals for the future, we see that our new growth is stifled by a lack of space. The heart of Spero is to offer everyone who enters a place at the table but at this point in our growth we are finding all of our seats occupied! Taco Tuesdays are consistently at maximum capacity, our Sunday services are full, and current plans are left on hold due to space constraints. Simply put: to continue meeting the needs of the individuals coming to Spero House, we need more room to grow!

Our goals for the future of Spero House are many. Amenities such as a place to shower and wash clothes are much needed, and yet, unavailable to the homeless in Niles. We want Spero House to be equipped to meet those needs. A Spero House "free store" where folks with little to no income can shop for clothing and household items in a dignified way could be created. A full kitchen where tasty and nutritious meals can be prepared can only be a possibility with a new, larger space. More volunteers from the community, cookouts, and maybe even a community garden- these are future goals which can be set only with the acquisition of a larger space.

The dreams of Spero House are ambitious. Yet when we see how much has already been accomplished in one (crazy!) year's time we are nothing short of energized! Through love, commitment, and compassion for our brothers and sisters we have seen lives changed for the better; and these are the changes which change cities and entire regions for the better! We have received so much support and encouragement from those who believe in the mission of Spero House.
We ask that you would continue to partner with us as we dig in and branch out to see even more healthy growth brought to the community of Niles.
