The Andy Giles Memorial Paddle Out - A Fundraiser For Special Surfers
Friends, family, surfers--- lets come together in the spirit of Andy, the incredible human that enriched all of our lives. We will gather at Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk for the Andy Giles Memorial Paddle Out, Friday Aug 24 (Andy’s birthday) at 5:30pm (please contact us if you are in need of a surf board). For those that prefer to be on boats, please plan to be offshore of Gooch’s at 5:30pm. As part of the Paddle Out we hope to raise money in Andy’s memory for Special Surfers, a Kennebunk based non-profit, so that his undeniable spirit can soar on for all of time through the adventurous spirits of future generations.
Special Surfers is a non-profit organization (501c3) sharing the empowering experience of surfing with children and young adults with special needs of all ages. This program provides the public with a view toward the joy a community can bring to the lives of individuals with special needs and their families through volunteerism and generosity. **In case of high seas or bad weather, our back up date for the Paddle Out is Saturday Aug 25 5:30pm.

Remembering Andy:
If there ever was an adventurous and pure spirit, it was Andy Giles. Andy was born in Sarnia, Ontario on Aug 24, 1977 to loving and adoring parents, Stuart and Judy Giles. Since Andy could walk, he lived on the edge—scaling the tallest trees, jumping off bridges and chasing the most epic waves.
Andy, who called Kennebunk Maine is home for the past 32 years, made a lasting impact on this tight knit community. He lived fully and would give the shirt off of his back for his family and friends. Andy was a loving big brother to Pete, Liz, and Caroline, and kept his dad and step-mom, Stuart and Jeanne, on their toes with his thirst for adventure.
Known for his “freaking awesome” toasts, on the fly raps, specially coined nicknames and unfiltered comments- Andy spoke freely, openly and lovingly to everyone in his life. His humor lightened the mood and brought joy and laughter to us all.
His upbeat zest for life lead him to interesting places and taught us all the importance of living in the moment. Some of the best moments of Andy’s life were in a wetsuit, strapped to his snowboard chasing powder, and ripping up the dance floor with his signature moves.
In recent years, Andy was most proud to be called “Uncle Doo” by nephew Levi, 7, and his two nieces Hattie, 2, and Charlie, 1. His love and commitment to these children was precious, pure and unwavering.
Andy died on Friday May 25, 2018 at 40 years young, too soon for all of us that loved him so dearly. We are comforted by the years of laughter filled memories Andy has left with us.
A Celebration of Life for Andy will take place 2pm Friday August 24 at the Kennebunkport Community House on North Street Kennebunkport ME (Next to the Congregational Church).
