Dane R. Balcon Memorial Charity Golf Tournament
Hello Family and Friends--for the sake of transparency and security, I would like to provide the following information:
This fundraiser is sponsored by Dr. Carla Sizer, Mother of SPC Dane R. Balcon, Killed-in-Action in Balad, Iraq.
All funds generated will support the SPC Dane R. Balcon Memorial fund 501(c)3 EIN: 47-3776592 and benefit Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadets in San Antonio, TX.
I cannot believe this is our 7th year hosting Dane's Golf Tournament! WE could not have done it without your help. As you know, we are raising money to benefit the SPC Dane R. Balcon Memorial Fund (501(c)3, EIN: 47-3776592) through our annual Memorial Golf Tournament. We are only 12-weeks away from a great day of golf and the Memorial Fund could really use your help. ANY donation amount will help create an impact.
For more information about OUR HERO and the SPC Dane R. Balcon Memorial Fund, please visit: danebalcon.org. Our mission is to help develop leaders of character by supporting various educational opportunities, including scholarships and grants in memory of SPC Dane Balcon. Our goal is to assist eligible students who participated in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in high school and are interested in pursuing higher education, military service, trade school or entry into the workforce.
I want to thank you in advance for contributing to this cause, which means so much to me and my family. We hope to see you on the green at the beautiful HYATT REGENCY HILL COUNTRY RESORT & SPA (9800 Hyatt Resort Drive, San Antonio Texas) on 9 October 2022. Registration is 1000-1230. We will tee off at 1230 and lunch will be provided to all golfers. To register, make donations, or sponsor, please visit: danebalcon.org.
More about Dane: SPC Dane R. Balcon was born on 27 April 1988, at Luke AFB Arizona, Dane Balcon was only three years old when he told me he wanted to be a soldier. In 2007, he enlisted in the Army as a Fire Support Specialist, following graduation from Sand Creek High School in Colorado Springs, CO. He attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training with 2nd Platoon, Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 40th Field Artillery Regiment, at Fort Sill, OK. Upon graduation from AIT, SPC Balcon received his first assignment to 3rd Squadron 8th Cavalry Regt., 1st Cavalry Division, in Fort Hood, TX. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Balad, Iraq, on 7 July 2007, and on 5 September 2007, he completed his mission-doing what he loved--serving his country.
When Dane was a Senior in high school senior, he served as the Drill Commander of his Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps unit. His ROTC Chief asked him to write an essay on his greatest fear. The following is an excerpt from that essay:
“When I go, I hope that they remember me and what I did. Like Alexander the Great who conquered much of the known world before he died at age 33. His name is in every history book on the planet, and I’m sure that’s what he wanted the most. Not to have statues in his likeness, or the wealth of the world, but to be remembered as a Titan. My Chief once asked me what my fear was and I said that mine was failure which is true. But my greatest fear, the thing I fear most is being forgotten, because I will never forget what I have done. I will never forget those days in the sun…thriving in my moments with my brothers in hard earned glory”.
Awards and ribbons that SPC Balcon earned while serving his country include The Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Weapons Qualification Badge – Expert w/Rifle.
Rest easy son!
Love,
Mom
