The August Summer Nights festival in downtown Vallejo takes place over three Fridays. Families can stroll through the booths and enjoy music for free except.......buying tickets to go in the bouncy house. We believe that an organization which receives significant funds from City of Vallejo should be able to spring for a bouncy house so all our kids can have fun. Let's give families a night to make memories together without parents being asked to spend money for kids to be entertained. Your donations go to purchase tickets and the numbers will be posted. SALLY is a mulitple award winning documentary nearly a decade in the making. It tells the story of Sally Miller Gearhart (1931 – 2021) a lesbian feminist who played a crucial role in the development of both those movements. Sally was a science fiction writer and linguistics professor and helped to establish one of the first womens studies programs in the US at San Francisco State University. From there Sally became an influential political activist who worked alongside Harvey Milk to fight discrimination against LGBT communities. After the tragic assasination of Harvey Milk Sally helped to calm the traumatized crowd however she was left out of the Harvey Milk biopic by Gus Van Sant. In later years Sally and a group of women built an independent community from the ground up in the California Redwoods. The life of Sally Miller Gearhart can be a source of education and inspiration but making a film is incredibly expensive and SALLY still needs to recover costs. In today's society, where the gap between the privileged and the underprivileged continues to widen, initiatives such as the Solano AIDS Coalition's "Island of Misfit Toys" hold immense significance. For over two decades, this annual program has been a beacon of hope and joy for approximately 1,400 underprivileged children in Solano County during the Christmas season. Through the provision of toys, turkeys, and gift cards, the Coalition has been able to bring smiles to the faces of these children, who might otherwise go without during the holiday season.

The impact of the "Island of Misfit Toys" initiative cannot be understated. For many of these children, the gifts they receive through this program may be the only ones they receive all year. The sense of joy and excitement that comes with receiving a toy or a gift card cannot be underestimated, especially for children who may be facing difficult circumstances at home. The provision of turkeys also plays a crucial role in ensuring that these families have a warm meal to enjoy during the festive season, bringing them together and fostering a sense of togetherness and community.

However, despite the incredible impact of the "Island of Misfit Toys" program, there is a looming threat that the Coalition's programs, including the Toy Drive, may be scaled back this year. This is a distressing prospect, as it means that many underprivileged children in Solano County may be left without the joy and hope that these gifts bring during Christmas. It is crucial for us, as a community, to unite and rally together to ensure that this vital initiative continues to thrive and bring happiness to those who need it most.

One way in which we can show our support for the "Island of Misfit Toys" program is by making a donation to the Solano AIDS Coalition. Every dollar counts and can make a difference in the lives of these children. By coming together and collectively raising the necessary funds, we can ensure that the Toy Drive and other programs continue to have a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

The Solano AIDS Coalition (SAC) 2023Toy Drive is here and we hope that we can count on your support this year, With your help we will be able to provide toys, not only for families affect by the HIV Virus /Covid-19 but also to those in our community who are struggling and in need. All toys will be given out on Saturday December 23, 2023 at our annual Solano AIDS Coalition Toy Give Away. Your donation will make a huge difference and will bring smile to the faces of many children this holiday season.  

           With the support from individuals, companies, schools, churches and private donors, we are growing! Since 2005 SAC has worked on the frontline doing all that we can to educate and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and help those in the community who are struggling the most. Without grant funding we have provided supportive services for those in need, blanket drives, food drives, health fairs, HIV testing, consistent condom distribution, counseling services, referrals, community events, our annual Toy Drive and much more. SAC has functioned solely through funding from private funders, community donations and the support of committed volunteers who believe in our vision and support the principal of our mission:

 The mission of the Solano AIDS Coalition is to provide services, education and information to those in need and build community support and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Our dear friend Thomas “Two Stroke” Solano passed away this afternoon as a result of an unauthorized air strike. His memory will not be forgotten. Police are currently investigating suspect Blake Bluthardt and will not rest until the perpetrator is brought to justice.

In the meantime, this fundraiser is intended to spread awareness for AIDS, a condition that affected both Thomas and his mourning husband, Daniel Ward. To celebrate his life, I'm raising money in aid of Solano AIDS Coalition, and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to all of us.
