Restoring St Catherine's sanctuary
Built in 1917, St Catherine's church was built for the Episcopalian community. Having outgrown this Neo Gothic country church in the 1950's, they built a larger structure down the road. They took with them many of the furnishings, including the high altar, which are located in the transept.

Afterwards, the building was used by the Christian Science community who removed any remaining sacred symbols and furnishings. They used it until three years ago when it was sold to St Catherine's.
The restoration of this church is well under way and we aim to celebrate Christmas Mass here. But the restoration of the sanctuary is a major undertaking.

(New communion rails that need to be modified for our sanctuary)
We need a high altar suitable for the beautiful architecture and worthy of the celebration of the Mass; part of the sanctuary floor needs to be demolished, re-poured, and tiled; a communion rail that's been purchased needs to be modified to fit the space; a suitable pulpit needs to be installed; the stained glass window frame is in disrepair and is in need of new glass.
Most importantly, a beautiful altar has been found! This altar is the exact same style as the original one, albeit slightly larger. It's crafted on beautiful oak and is a true masterpiece of craftsmanship and elegance, exuding timeless beauty and reverence.
