Celebrating the Life & Legacy of Antonina Kukharchuk
Antonina Kukharchuk “Babusia Tonya, of Cumming, Georgia, peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, August 3, 2025. She was surrounded by the love of her daughter Larisa and family during her final moments. Heaven welcomed a faithful servant, and earth said goodbye to a woman whose legacy will live on for generations.
Born on January 7, 1929, in Ukraine, Babusia Tonya was the embodiment of strength, resilience, and devotion. A true matriarch, she is survived by her children—Larisa Bumburyak of Cumming, Pavel Kukharchuk, and Anatolii Kukharchuk—as well as 24 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She now joins her beloved husband, children, and loved ones who have gone before her.
Antonina was not only a homemaker but a builder in every sense of the word—both of homes and hearts. With her own hands, she laid bricks, tore down walls, built roofs, and constructed her home in Ukraine from the ground up. She was also a sharp businesswoman, known for selling homegrown carnations at the local bazaar. Her work ethic was unmatched, and her determination unwavering.
But beyond what she built with her hands was her extraordinary resourcefulness and vision. Babusia Tonya was the reason our family came to America. After immigrating and becoming a U.S. citizen herself, she became the foundation for our family’s new beginning in this country. Her courage, foresight, and determination opened the door to a brighter future for generations to come. She approached life with creativity, wisdom, and strength—always finding thoughtful ways to care for others, create order, and lead with grace.
Babusia Tonya was a woman of wisdom, warmth, and unwavering conviction. She was well-read, deeply thoughtful, and never afraid to speak truth in love. Her home was always orderly, her meals nourishing, and her presence comforting. She taught her family not just how to live—but how to thrive—with joy, purpose, and faith.
To us, she was Babusia. Our teacher, encourager, builder, and prayer warrior. Whether she was teaching us to cook, clean, pray, build, or speak a new language, she poured into us with love and intention.
