Help Autism & Skateboarding Together Less Prickly
The Dream
Our son Johny is 7 years old, and he’s competing in the USA Skateboarding Amateur Series at Lauridsen Skatepark in Des Moines this August, his biggest competition yet. But here’s the hard truth: our whole family has never been able to watch him skate in person.
The Challenge
Our daughter Kora is autistic with a PDA profile, and the noise, crowds, and chaos of big events are overwhelming for her. It’s heartbreaking to miss these moments as a family, and we know we’re not the only ones. Many families face the same barrier.
The Solution
We’re working with SkateDSM and KultureCity to bring a Sensory Activation Vehicle (SAV) to Johny’s competition. The SAV is a mobile sensory-friendly space—a quiet, calming environment where people can regulate, reset, and still be part of the action. It’s a game-changer for families like ours.
The Goal
We need to raise $10,000 in just a few weeks, $7,000 of that goes directly to bringing the SAV to Lauridsen Skatepark. Every dollar will go through SkateDSM, a nonprofit, and donations are tax-deductible.
*If you are at $7000 sponsorship level your logo will be included in all print.*
Why It Matters
This isn’t just about our family. It’s about making skateboarding events truly inclusive, so every fan, competitor, and family can belong. Johny gets to skate his heart out knowing his sister is right there, and Kora gets to cheer him on without it being overwhelming.
