I am Sneha and I am a rising high school senior. I have been learning the Indian classical dance of Bharatanatyam for 11 years and am  preparing to graduate from the Soundarya Natya Kalalaya dance school,NJ.

The Arangetram is an important milestone in the career of any Bharatanatyam dancer. After several years of arduous training, when the Teacher or Guru is confident that the disciple can sustain a solo performance, their Arangetram is announced. It is thus a momentous rite of passage.  On the day of my Arangetram, I will be performing solo for nearly 4 hours to showcase my learnings and I am working very hard to meet this goal. 

 

I am dancing for a cause - to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children using the medium of dance and education. I am doing this via a non-profit organization, Shiksha Prayas . Shiksha Prayas is engaged in empowering disadvantaged children in India through quality educational support. They have been working to provide free tuition support and laptops/tablets to children in need and their work has transformed the lives of over 3500 children so far. As a student I can relate to their needs, and I want to use my Arangetram as a platform to support their mission and raise awareness about their work.

 

I am looking to raise $5000 to support Shiksha Prayas in helping these children in need. This amount can provide laptops for 20 needy high school students and support annual student sponsorship for 20 more students. I want to ask everyone to please consider contributing to this cause, as these children need our help to empower themselves.
