More information about She's the First: She's the First fights for a world where every girl chooses her own future. We team up with local organizations around the world to ensure girls are educated, respected, and heard. 

We're dedicated to raising funds for She's the First through physical activity! We will be running/walking 1 mile per every $5 donated, so the goal is a total of 80 miles. We will use the app Strava to track the miles that we achieve, and  even if you do not want to donate money, anyone can join the Strava club and help us reach our goal!

We are also teaming up with Positive Tracks, a non-profit organization that works to raise money through "Sweating for Good," and they have mentioned that they will match up to $100 dollars for our cause!

In too many places around the world, girls are treated as second-class citizens. They are denied an education, told when and who to marry, and blocked from leadership positions.  
 
She’s the First is a community fighting to change this. We are ambitious students and dedicated teachers; inspiring artists and seasoned policymakers; resilient mothers and feminist fathers; community organizers and business leaders. We come from many countries and backgrounds, but our differences are not nearly as important as what we share — a belief that every girl, no matter where she is born, deserves to be educated, respected, and heard. 

These funds will support a project to fully fund 300 girls (ages 5-11) in Peru, Nepal, India, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Ethiopia, in addition to funding classroom activities that will inspire 1,000+ girls to dream big. Equipped with a curriculum from She’s the First and funding for program costs, local organizations will run workshops that demonstrate to girls that they have limitless potential with an education. Community-based role models will participate in activities to show girls the many types of careers they can have.  Additional funds would sustain She’s the First programs that work to ensure girls have education, mentorship, and leadership opportunities year-round.

She's the First has trained more than 75 local organizations to serve girls better every day, and together we’ve provided 7,800 girls in 11 countries with the support and tools they need to become powerful agents of change. We won’t stop fighting until every girl chooses her own future. We believe that providing girls access to education will be impactful in helping them to #ClosetheDreamGap. 

As a recipient of the Dream Gap Project Fund, She's the First will fund 300 girls (ages 5-11) in Peru, Nepal, India, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Ethiopia for one year, in addition to funding in-class activities focused on inspiring girls to dream big in at least those six countries. Equipped with a curriculum from She’s the First and funds for speakers’ travel and program costs, local organizations will be able to run at least three dedicated workshops on interesting career options, incorporating play along the way. Girls who thought their only options were to be a wife, a mother, or a primary school teacher will see that they can choose from many different options, and a curriculum based on play will help them to see themselves in new and exciting shoes.

WHAT IS THE DREAM GAP 

Recent research shows starting at age 5, many girls begin to develop limiting self-beliefs. They stop believing their gender can do or be anything. This critical time in girls’ development when they begin losing confidence, is called the Dream Gap. The Dream Gap creates barriers for girls to reach their full potential, which can negatively affect and inhibit their future trajectory or career choices. 


THE DREAM GAP PROJECT FUND 

Barbie established the Dream Gap Project Fund with $250K in March 2019 to fuel efforts to close the Dream Gap. This fall, Barbie is teaming up with GoFundMe to invite everyone to help close the Dream Gap. No matter how big or small a donation, every bit counts. Your support will go towards leveling the playing field for girls, by providing tools, resources, and support to organizations on the ground working to change the lives of girls around the world.
