RE-BUILD SHERANDO UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
On Friday, October 29, 2021, our church of about 40 in attendance, suffered a horrific fire that started about 7:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. In short order it collapsed and then after that the fellowship hall, which was built in the late 1880's. The east end education wing of five classrooms still stands, but seriously compromised and will likely be demolished. Five hard-working volunteer fire companies responded and did the best they could in a challenging situation. We are located in Augusta County, Virginia, at 2022 Howardsville Tpk, Stuarts Draft, Va. 24477.
The VSP fire investigators were on the scene quickly and after several visits ruled the cause "undetermined" but all indicators are that it was electrical in origin. There is no indication of arson.
We are working with our insurance agency to provide the necessary documents. We are plainly aware that it is an expensive time to be building and that it will be several months before we are in a position to do so. But with your help we will be able to build back better and stronger, along with the strong faith of this church and this community.
