We rescued Snowy from the West Valley Shelter ID A2222878 on January 15, 2026 when she was 6 months old after spending 4 months in a shelter and no one came for her. Snowy has tremors and wobbles on her back legs and her back torso is lowered (abducted pelvic limbs distal to tarsal region). She has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia and will likely need a full hip replacement costing $20,000. Snowy has been through 2 surgical consults for her hip dysplasia and underwent 6 physical therapy consults. We still do not know why she shakes and has back leg problems and pain when her tummy/upper back are touched. We are delaying the hip replacement until we can get to the root cause of her neurological condition. Her dedicated medical foster brought Snowy to a neurological consultation with Dr. Elizabeth Gagnepain at Veterinary Specialty Hospital North County (Ethos Vet) in San Marcos, CA on September 10, 2026. She does have a very mild mildly malformed lumbar sacral region that causes a very small protrusion or bulging of the disk at L7S1 region. Dr. Gagnepain does not suspect that is causing the symptoms. Her spine looks phenomenal. Not a single degenerative disc. No compression. No problems with the bone. No reason for that level of pain both under her belly and over her spine and definitely no reason for the weakness. She did collect a sample of spinal fluid will test for microscopic disease like meningitis brewing for quite awhile or a fungal infection. She is going to test for those things. Snowy will start on prednisone anti inflammatory steroid to assess her response to that depending on what we find there is a possibility where the spinal fluid is completely normal the fungal testing is completely normal and sometimes these disorders affecting the nerves are very difficult to find and require muscle and nerve biopsies. She is not a fan she doesn’t always get greatest information being a more invasive test but it gives her information in the peripheral nervous system being the muscle the nerve and junction between the two and typically the only thing it tells her is if it’s an inflammatory (myopathy neuropathy or junctionopathy non inflammatory) or is it non-inflammatory is it a degenerative condition. Dr. Gagnepain does not think Snowy has a degenerative condition given that she has not significantly worsened and those are typically non painful but she has not improved either having now fully developed growth plates and physical therapy that did not work. And typically the answer if whether it is inflammatory or not she can also get while on steroids. Snowy’s foster will be monitoring Snowy on steroids to see if she’s more coordinated and stronger on those hind legs or not yelping when picked up both under her belly and over her spine. While waiting for the final spinal tap test results. Her foster will keep a close eye on Snowy's back legs and Dr. Gagnepain wants to know if she is improving with the prednisone and video will be very helpful.

Master Wolf with Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc. needs your help with Skye (fka Hope) a 5 year old female husky we rescued out of the SEAACA Downey shelter (ID #26-12671) on 6/25/2026. We were told she had problems with her hind legs because she had a bent posture. When we took her to see Dr. Keeshan at Veterinary Surgical Specialists on 7/2/26, he diagnosed her with cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tears in both knees. Both sides are severely atrophied from a cruciate tear that caused a severe deformity in her leg with her femur bone falling. Her femur starting to slip down has created an emergency situation for her. The femur plays a crucial role in supporting Skye’s weight and enabling movement. In the X-Rays taken you can clearly see a forward shift of Skye’s tibia (lower hind leg) relative to her femur (thigh bone). Due to instability, Skye cannot extend her leg to the normal 180° range instead her extension is only 50°. This is a chronic issue and she has been scarred. Dr. Keeshan said her CCL tears are SEVERE!

Skye’s ruptured CCLs in her knees have created severe tears in her CCL in each knee, the equivalent to a human ACL. Because her CCLs has torn and weakened, the ligaments can no longer hold her thigh bone femur in place. Every time Skye takes a step, she has constant instability causing cartilage, damage and arthritis. Even though a dog’s knee is always bent at a sloped angle when standing, Skye’s knees are bent at a significant angle. Her knee joint is gone because her femur has dropped down so significantly. She is unable to get much motion when she walks. She is unable to extend her hip fully and she likely experiences pain each she tries. At our 6 acre sanctuary Skye refuses to wander and instead prefers to stay in the kitchen, going outside for potty breaks and short walks.

Skye’s shelter records say that she is 5 years old. She likely has had this atrophied condition and has been living with chronic pain for some time. Cranial crucial ligament rupture is the most common cause of hindlimb lameness in dogs. In most dogs, if left untreated, it results in rapid advancement of osteoarthritis as well. Surgical planning is essential for optimal surgical outcome, and that is exactly what Dr. Keeshan has done. Dr. Keeshan said it’s URGENT to do TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery on Skye ASAP. TPLO will help stabilize the knee (stifle) joint after a rupture of the CCL. It involves cutting the top of the shin bone (tibia), rotating it to change the joint's angle, and securing it with a metal plate and screws.

Dr. Keeshan will flatten out Skye’s legs by cutting the bone. He has to do a very specific map out of what he’s gonna do for her with metal plate insertions. He explained to us that he will cut the bone and then spin it do a TPLO to change the direction of how she walks. We will be scheduling surgery on each leg separately. The first surgery will be on her left leg and will take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, with the 2nd surgery on her right leg hopefully to be scheduled 4 weeks later.

SKYE’s estimate for 1 leg scheduled for 7/9/2026 is $8,755 including spay. That’s in addition to the $1,502 paid on 7/2/2026 for consult, x-rays +pain meds + doxycycline. We have raised a good amount, but we are right now $7,000 short to cover the full amount of this coming Wednesday's surgery on 7/15/2026. WE ARE BEGGING FOR HELP FOR SKYE.
