Emersyn's E-Tube Replacement
Emersyn is a sanctuary dog living in a foster home under the care of Second Chance Ranch Rescue and Sanctuary.
Emersyn and her siblings were born in August 2022. After one of our fosters noticed that the smallest puppy in the litter was not gaining weight and was not properly latching to mom, we rushed the puppy to our vet. Upon inspection, a cleft palate was found in the puppy's mouth.
I took on Emersyn at two days old and have been fostering her ever since.
Through generous in-kind donations, we were able to cover two cleft palate reconstructive surgeries. Unfortunately, Emersyn continued to have struggles with things such as weight and appetite.
Eventually, Emersyn's primary care veterinarian and her specialists all agreed upon placing a feeding tube, as her appetite decreased to nothing.
The feeding tube has been a blessing to us. Meals are stress free for both Emersyn and myself and she has gained a significant amount of weight since having the feeding tube placed.
Unfortunately, the tube that was placed was only a temporary tube and ended up having almost a complete failure about two months in.
Emersyn needs a full permanent tube replacement to continue to thrive. In addition to the tube, her internal medicine specialist has also recommended an ultrasound on her abdomen to detect abnormalities that would explain the lack of weight gain despite having a consistent diet.

Emersyn, in the meantime, has been living her best life with her fellow foster brothers and sisters.
She loves dandelions, sniffing around the backyard, playing with puppies, her big brother Talos, squishmallows, and the sunny spot by the window.
