The Liberty Nautical Education Center (LiNE), sponsored by Sea Dart II, Inc. is an organization that was founded on the mission to create a path to success for tomorrow’s leaders through first-class, hands-on, maritime educational programs.
The primary means of delivering this program is through our training vessels such as the Sea Dart II, our sailboats, and a variety of other vessels that serve to further bridge the gap between youth and maritime skills.
Since last summer we have invested heavily into a major overhaul of our primary training vessel, Sea Dart II, to ensure she meets the highest safety standards and will be a viable resource to our Sea Scouts for years to come. That work has taken a great deal of time and effort, but we are very close to getting her and the rest of our fleet sailing this spring.
This is where YOU come in...
To get to the finish line, we still must complete some additional repairs and upgrades. Here are some ways your money can get the Sea Dart sailing and improve our program:
- renewal of the rudder tube ($15,000)
- replacement of the steering cable ($250)
- steel work in the void below the wheelhouse and in our galley ($7500)
- installation of new handrails on the boat deck ($2500)
- completion of a new fire detection system instillation ($250) and
- installation of new equipment for safe navigation ($2000)
- purchase of 2 outboard motors for our mosquito fleet ($5000)
- repairs to our 28’ sailboat ($2500)
- repairs to our lifeboat ($2500)
We anticipate these additional repairs and upgrades to total about $25,000, but we are looking to offset some of this cost with support in the form of donated materials and services as well.
We also want you to know we have a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors composed of professionals in the maritime industry, parents of Sea Scout alumni, and even a retired Navy Rear Admiral who started his career on Sea Dart II. They ensure we are responsible with the funds we get and that we use them wisely to meet our mission.
Our goal is to have all the inspections completed and the vessel ready to sail with our Sea Scouts by May. We know our funding needs are great, but we also know the opportunity to use Sea Dart II to engage scouts and our community right away is an equally great need that we can meet.
The sooner we can get the funding needed to finish the work the better the chances of us meeting or exceeding our goal, so any amount will help.
Thank you for your support!
