Help us Find Takito, Missing Deaf Rescue Dog!
We are Saving South Texas 501c3, a Texas based nonprofit animal rescue. One of our dogs, Takito, was involved in a car accident on Tuesday December 19 at 1pm in New Paltz, New York.
This is a unique situation because Takito is deaf, survived a traumatic car accident, and is not familiar with this area or cold weather.
Unfortunately, as of today, December 28, Takito is still missing, 9 days after the accident. We have no confirmed sightings since December 22, which was a thermal drone sighting.
**For Clarification: we have reached out to every volunteer trapping organization in the tri-state area: Buddha Rescue & Recovery, Hound Hunters, and some on Long Island. Unfortunately they are all busy on cases and can not assist us.
We have spoken to many professionals and they recommend that we hire a professional pet tracker. There is a highly rated pet tracker in the area.
We were quoted $1275 for the first day of services. Any additional day costs $500 per day. We don’t know how many days of the services we will need to find Takito, but we need to be prepared. We also need to order more flyers to hang. We already paid $180 for flyers at the local print shop.
As a very small nonprofit rescue, we don’t have these funds and we are asking for the community to please donate and help us bring Takito home.
His foster mom has been tirelessly searching every single day since the accident, with the help of amazing volunteers and drone pilots donating their time. Nonprofit organizations have provided remote support and guidance, and other organizations have loaned trail cameras and a trap. We have printed and posted flyers in the surrounding areas. We have posted on every lost pet Facebook group in New York.
You might be wondering how Takito got to New York all the way from Texas. He was saved from euthanasia in Texas by our rescue. Over the summer, he was transferred to a rescue partner in Connecticut. Right after we transported Takito to CT, the rescue unexpectedly permanently closed down. We took Takito back into our care and he was being fostered in New York. Takito started on a new adoption trial the weekend before the car accident. The adopter is not moving forward with the adoption and he will be going back to his foster home after he is found.
The past week has been incredibly exhausting and we are desperate to find our sweet Takito safe.
Thank you so much for your support! If you are unable to donate at this time, please share!
**Any leftover funds will be used to reimburse the foster who has personally paid for all of the bait food and supplies, as well as a small donation to the drone pilots who have donated their time.
