Save Our Ship, Inc.

Hello folks!

I'm one of the volunteers for SOS, Inc. We are a nonprofit, grassroots group of volunteers (no paid staff) who are fervently passionate about saving, protecting, and preserving this important landmark and its history.

We relocated the ship to Knife River after we could not find a suitable location within Duluth. The ship is a part of the expanding Scandinavian Cultural Center, along with the Crusader II, located next to the restored historic train depot—that is being developed as part of the depot and north shore fisheries history.

We are currently fundraising to construct a protective shelter, viewing ramp and platform, and story boards for visitors. Our targeted goal is $100,000. We have been working with some grant money, but we still need more funding to help get the ship properly displayed, and finish our project. The shelter design is in progress with the designer. The concrete slab has already been installed, as well as the sod and the swale. All we need is some boost to help get us to the finish line.
