What happened...

The steeple at Saron Lutheran - First Presbyterian Church in Hoquiam was struck by lightning at around 6:30 AM on November 20. We are one of the oldest churches in Hoquiam that lives into our call of being a welcoming faith community of service and love.

We are fortunate the damage from the strike was contained and that the roof of our steeple took the brunt of the destruction. We are thankful that no one was in the building at the time and the damage is minimal compared to what could have happened. We are thankful that the strike hit the church (being the tallest building in Hoquiam) and that it missed the neighboring buildings that houses businesses, apartments, homes and more.

Now comes the hard work:

We are still assessing all the damages that happened to our steeple, the electrical, the cracks in the wall, the sound system and more. We are raising funds to help us cover our deductible and whatever other expenses that could happen that will not be covered by insurance. Any funds left over will be used to support the following ministries/programs that we do for the community:

-Monthly Community Meal at Saron-1st

-Harbor Food Pantry

-Cold Weather and Hygiene Items Ministry

-Community Gospel Garden (all produce goes to local pantry and food bank)

-Boots for Bears

-Grief Support Groups

and more.
