Our infrastructure needs are critical.

Sweet Wheel Summerland Farm requires farm infrastructure to fight food insecurity in our community. These include IRRIGATION, to grow our crops, FENCING, to protect our crops, EQUIPMENT, to conduct farm operations, and CONSTRUCTION.

THE SWEET WHEEL SUMMERLAND FARM SOLVES FOOD SECURITY FOR AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY. We donate to medically fragile individuals and single parent households. We educate children and adults on regenerative and chemical-free farming. We had over 1,000 students on our farm last year for educational trips. We do not use any pesticides, herbicides or synthetic chemicals in the soil or on the plants. We grow nutritious, chemical-free food in pure soil.

The Santa Barbara County town of Summerland is a government-certified food desert: an area with limited access to whole, healthy and affordable food. Summerland’s last grocery store closed many years ago, leaving residents without access to affordable and nutritious food.

WE ARE ADVANCING FOOD SECURITY THROUGH EDUCATION, including nutritional awareness and its benefits on overall physical health and wellbeing. We are also demonstrating the potential of high-quality, clean food production that is economically viable as well as regenerative and sustainable.

WE FIGHT FOOD INSECURITY DIRECTLY, through our food delivery program delivering cost-free weekly allocations of our fresh fruits and vegetables to over 100 food-fragile individuals who have been referred to us by schools, local churches, other non-profits and social support services including cancer referrals and the Visiting Nurses Association.

Summerland current town residents’ median age is 63, nearly double the county average, and includes an underserved veteran population. Over 32% of renters are overburdened, paying more than an “affordable” 30% of their income to rent in Summerland. Together, these statistics represent populations that require transportation, medical assistance, or financial assistance, for whom driving miles to the nearest grocery store is not an option. Our farm stand and delivery programs are necessary to connect our community to nutritious, nourishing produce and food products.
