Dear Summit friends,

SAGE Eldercare needs our help. The state of New Jersey recently cut off funding for one of their most crucial programs that provides essential daily meals for our seniors (Spend-A-Day Adult Medical Day Center (SPAD). It currently costs up to $100,000 in annual expenses, $12 per meal, and is often the only source of a well-balanced meal for many seniors in OUR SUMMIT COMMUNITY, especially those battling cognitive challenges like alzheimer's and dementia. Their caregivers, often seniors themselves, depend on us to help meet their loved ones' dietary needs. Unfortunately, only some of our clients can afford to pay privately, and increasing fees would place an unfair strain on families already facing financial challenges.

SAGE is NOT a nursing home. SAGE is for all ages and provides support SUCH AS:

* (SPAD) Spend–A–Day Medical Adult Day Care Center -For five decades, SAGE has provided an interactive environment for participants to enjoy memory enhancement activities, including group discussions, active games, exercise programs, holiday celebrations, and guest entertainers and lecturers

* Meals during the day: breakfast, lunch and light snack

* Assistance with toileting and ambulation

* Nursing support for medical conditions, including medication administration

* Social work support for participants, families and caregivers

* On-site Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists with experience working with older adults

* Meals planned by a Registered Dietitian

* Individual care plans are created for each participant with input from families, the participant's physician and SAGE's nurse, the social worker, and the recreation team.

I have been working with SAGE for several years and know how valuable a resource SAGE is to Summit. As we age, our seniors must have all the resources they can get if they need assistance. Remember, the time will come when you, too, may need help, and SAGE will be here to help you.
