Excitement surrounding The Woman King has begun to rise around the nation.

The movie stars the highly acclaimed actress Viola Davis and is centered on the real history of the Agojie tribe, women warriors who defended the West African kingdom of Dahomey from the 1600s until the late 19th century.

In the current political climate in America where women’s basic rights are under siege, now is the time for all women to band together as warriors to fight back for justice.

The Saffron Women’s Trust Foundation is creating the #RiseWomenKings challenge to send as many girls in the Austin area as possible to a FREE screening of The Woman King on opening night with each girl also receiving a concessions snack pack.

Why is this important?

Girls everywhere benefit from seeing strong, powerful women. Creating a safe space with like-minded individuals sets the tone for seeing the warrior in their own selves and believing they can stand together and fight the injustices women are facing in our nation and around the world.
