A Fence for Rusty's Legacy
We are raising money to install a chain-link fence on part of our pasture to finally provide a grassy area for our rescues. Currently, all we have is a gravel area that gets very hot in the summer — this can be very uncomfortable for the older dogs and our dogs with tender feet.
Our beloved Beth Erwin, who passed away yesterday, wanted so very much for us to finally do this that she offered to pay for the fencing before she fell ill. This was one of Beth’s final requests. It drove her crazy that in the summer the dogs had to walk on hot gravel because of State regulations, which require gravel or grass with absolutely no dirt showing.
A fenced area in the grassy field would here would enrich the lives of our rescue dogs tremendously, especially so for our "sanctuary dogs" (those dogs who are not adoptable and who will remain with us for the rest of their lives) since their permanent home is a concrete pad.
We have estimated the cost to be $15,000 and have set up a GoFundMe page asking for donations specifically for this project. Can you help us make Beth Erwin's final wish a reality?
At Rusty’s Legacy, we rescue dogs from high-kill shelters in Western North Carolina, save stray and endangered dogs, promote spay and neuter programs, and work tirelessly to achieve a no-kill community.
We are a state-licensed animal shelter and is inspected by the N.C. Department of Agriculture several times a year. We are the only State licensed animal rescue in McDowell County.
