Imagine if you, your child, or a family member were in need of emergency medical attention, but when you arrived at the hospital, there was no power.
We take electricity for granted.
In West Africa, electricity reaches fewer than 5 out of 100 people. Within the region, Liberia is the poorest country and countless people have little or no access to electricity. Without reliable power, vaccines are jeopardized, and it is incredibly difficult for hospitals to deliver essential health care.
Together we have the power to make a difference.
We are half way and need $300,000 more in total - help us raise $30,000 in 30 days!
In December of 2019, RREAL will build a solar microgrid for a hospital in Sub-Saharan Africa as their latest Skip the Grid project. This project, Current for Curran, will electrify a crucial 125+ bed hospital located in Lofa County, near Zorzor, Liberia. Curran Hospital and the Esther Bacon School of Nursing and Midwifery is serving not only the people of Liberia but also Sierra Leone and Guinea.
Curran Hospital is a striking example of the dangerous health impacts energy poverty has on all of us and Earth. Curran is entirely dependent on costly and polluting diesel generators. The hospital can only afford enough fuel for about half the day. How can a hospital deliver essential health care without electricity?
We can change this with solar energy.

The total we need to build the project is $300,000. Team Current for Curran GoFundMe Village has a fundraising goal of raising $30,000 in 30 days during June 2019. We need your energy to help us meet this critical goal!

RREAL’s Skip the Grid initiative is empowering hospitals like Curran and moving them from having electricity for half the day to having electricity all day, every day. Solar makes it possible to deliver community-owned solutions in remote places. The installation of community-owned solar microgrids at rural Sub-Saharan African hospitals is improving the quality and reliability of health care, reducing unhealthy pollution and greenhouse gases, and empowering local community members through inclusive solar workforce training.
