Rio Valley Relief Project

We heard about the Gonzales family in December last year. Maria, a 33-year-old single mom from Honduras, was granted refugee status, papers, and the safety this land offered through the refugee resettlement program after fleeing unspeakable violence and persecution from her own community. In collaboration with CWS, our Rio Valley Relief Project apartment setup team went on to work in creating a beautiful home for her and her children.

Maria and her 6 children arrived on January 11th to a welcome home and started the process to settle down.

Unfortunately, with the policy change due to the new administration, Maria has found herself without means to pay for rent, food, or transportation. We are hoping to raise funds to move the Gonzales family to Minnesota where she has a brother who can help her. I'm posting this GoFundMe as a way of helping Maria cover their living expenses and 6 months of rent in Minnesota. We hope that this fund will lessen the financial stress put on the family. Their resilience, optimism, and the way they have embraced the US as a whole is inspiring and a wonderful reminder of how lucky we all are to call America home, whether by birth or by choice. Please help us help our wonderful new neighbors by giving whatever donation feels comfortable.

It's been one year since we finished remodeling this wonderful safehouse in our DFW community. Since, we have hosted five large refugee families, and the impact this home has had in the lives of so many parents and their children is humbling and heartwarming.

Although our safehouse was treated with care and respect by the families living in it, after a year of use, the property needs maintenance.

Refugee Services of Texas has a large refugee family waiting to move in as soon as we can get the house ready. We hope to have the job done by the last week of March.

About Rio Valley Relief Project: Rio Valley Relief Project seeks to provide relief and dignity to refugees and families seeking asylum in the United States.

Beneficiary: Survivors of human trafficking and Afghan refugees

Organization: Rio Valley Relief Project (RVRP) in collaboration with Refugee Services of Texas (RST) and the Dallas community.

 

We have the opportunity to restore and refurbish a safehouse in the DFW area that was damaged in a fire. This house once completed will shelter survivors of human trafficking and refugees welcomed by the United States for their service to our military. All have endured trauma and face innumerable challenges on their path to becoming whole again. First and foremost, each needs a safe place to recover and begin a new life. That’s what your donation will make possible.

 

This campaign seeks to raise $10,000 for a restoration project on a wonderful house donated for this purpose, which will be lovingly renovated by an army of volunteers, can house up to 10 people, and will be ready to welcome them in May.
