Every year thousands of women from all walks of life die from drug and alcohol related causes in the United States. After years of losing the struggle against alcohol and drug addiction, our mother, Colleen Ann McBride (Cusack), died June 11th, 2015. Help us raise funds for women's recovery programs at Caron Treatment Centers so another family may not have to face the same loss.
April 8th would have been our mother’s 58th birthday. While we continue to move forward through our grief, we know our mother at her best loved to help others. We want to help others as well, by raising funds till the one year anniversary of her death, June 11th, to donate towards women’s recovery efforts at Caron Treatment Centers.

Our mother was a good woman who long had been losing the battle to addiction. Her disease robbed her of so much, including her ability to be present as a mother, her ability to be present as a grandmother, her social connections, and many years from her life. Her disease robbed my brothers and I of a chance at a stable home, a present mother, and robbed her grandkids of a present grandmother.
Even with the loss of our mother to addiction, we know recovery is possible. Millions of alcoholics and addicts get and stay sober. We want to help.

Help us collect the funds to give other women a chance to be freed of the disease of addiction. We recognize it is a disease, and there is treatment.
Approximately 22.5 million Americans meet the medical criteria for addiction.

Women are often impacted by the disease of addiction differently than men. Males are more likely to act out or get in trouble with the law. As a result, they often enter treatment earlier in life than females. Additionally, depending on their responsibilities, women may delay treatment. As a mother, they may not want to be away from small children or they may fear losing custody of a child if they seek help for their disease.

Caron’s program for women treats each family individually and focuses on recovery by working through the disease and any underlying issues. Dedicated professionals look at who the person is and how that relates to the roles they play and the hats they wear (professional, parent, spouse, adult, and child). Caron meets families where they are in life and helps them with the tools and practices that will get them on the path to recovery.
