Running for Leftover Cuisine 5K
Hi everyone, thank you for taking the time to visit my GoFundMe page! I am organizing a virtual 5K ("Running for Leftover Cuisine") from April 25th - April 26th to benefit Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC). RLC is a nonprofit operating in 12 different cities across the U.S. with the ultimate goal of reducing food wastage and ending food insecurity. They enlist the help of volunteers to collect excess food from restaurants and deliver that food to homeless shelters, food pantries, and soup kitchens. RLC's impact on local communities continues to grow, and they have been doing a tremendous amount of work to help provide essential support to communities in need during this time, especially in NYC. Each and every dollar we can give helps them continue this meaningful work! Link to RLC's website: https://www.rescuingleftovercuisine.org/
Now, what's a virtual 5K? The concept is simple: simply complete a 5K on your own schedule! Given the social distancing measures in place today (and the fact that we are spread out across the country), a virtual 5K is a great way to get everyone together to support a good cause while getting some fresh air and exercise.
The Running for Leftover Cuisine 5K will be held from April 25th - April 26th (figured it may be a little hard to predict how the weather will be this far out, so this provides a bit more flexibility). Important details below:
1. Sign up to participate: choose what you'd like to pay for registration ($5 donation minimum) - this will be done on this very GoFundMe page. I'll know who all are participating based on the donations I see on this page.
2. Spread the word to your family and friends: it will be fun to see how many people we can get involved in this! The more the merrier (and the greater our donation amount can be for RLC).
3. Download a running app on your phone: UnderArmour MapMyRun and Nike Run Club are both popular running apps, but feel free to use whatever app you are comfortable with.
4. Figure out which day you'd like to do the 5K (either 4/25 or 4/26) and do it: you can do this whenever, wherever, and however you'd like! I wanted to make sure people had flexibility - you can run, jog, walk, skip, leap, anything to cover the full 5K distance (as long as it's on foot). You can do the 5K outdoors, on a treadmill, running around your house, whatever works! Be sure to use one of the running apps to record your activity.
5. Send me a screenshot of your completed 5K: send an email to [email redacted] with a screenshot of your completed 5K! This step is SUPER important because..... if you complete the 5K in 25 minutes or less, I will personally match $5 of your donation and the fastest runner will receive a $50 giftcard to a restaurant of their choice, completely on me!
6. Sit back and relax: you've just participated in a fun event for a great cause! Pat yourself on the back, hydrate, and enjoy a treat. We'll have the results out within a few days of wrapping up!
The global impact of Covid-19 has been immeasurable, and communities are struggling to stay afloat and safe. In these trying times, WE have the power to support an organization whose purpose is to help vulnerable communities get access to the most basic human need: food. I am confident that we together can help RLC increase the depth and breadth of their impact, and I am excited to see just how much of a difference we can make when we work together to better the world!
