Mahado Maow is a single mother who has been living in Dadaab Refugee Camp in Kenya since 1992. For the past year, she has been receiving weekly dialysis due to double kidney failure at the cost of $200 per treatment thanks to generous donations made by those who know her story.
However, this treatment means she's had to leave her five children in the care of neighbors in Dadaab while she fights to survive by staying in a friend's basement in Nairobi, closer to her medical care. Without a transplant or continuing this routine of weekly dialysis, Mahado will not survive.
She has recently found a kidney donor but does not have the money necessary to complete the surgery. A generous donor has offered to match any donations we are able to raise through Refugee Strong in order to save this mother's life and the future lives of her five children.
Our goal amount will cover her medical treatment, travel, lodging, food, and follow-up care so that she can get well and return to her family as soon as possible.
No amount is too small to help save this mother's life so she can be there for her children. We appreciate you reading Mahado's story, contributing what you can, and sharing her journey with others.
Much love,
The Refugee Strong Team
