Red Riding Hood Rescue Project

Remember the rare black Eastern Coyotes that were running loose in Warwick, RI one year ago? Want to follow them on their journey towards healing and trust after their ordeal of abuse and then freedom on the beach before being captured and sent to rescue?

I'm raising money to benefit the Red Riding Hood Rescue Project, the Sanctuary that is caring for these puppies. Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to help these 2 sisters and their wolfdog friends. We call them the '401 Girls' because that is the area code where they came from. Can you help us raise $4001 in honor of these 2 girls that are making huge strides in small steps. We are proud of them!

We are a 501c3 non profit organization committed to the rescue and lifetime care for wolfdogs in need. We are 100% donor funded and volunteer run.

We are the caretakers for 22 wolfdogs, most of whom have never ridden in a car except on their rescue day. Our animals have come from situations of neglect and abuse and they have come to us from around the country. They are not easy to vet and most can’t travel in a car. We need help.

Earlier this summer, our vet team: Dr. Darsha Arnold and Amy Marmer, performed 3 field neuters on 3 of our more challenging males. They did it flawlessly but it did include our vet tech scaling an 8 foot fence to get in. (That’s a story by itself.) But we would like to make their job easier while offering the most sterile environment possible. It is time for the Little Red Clinic.

The clinic would sit inside the perimeter of the animal pod so that no animals will need to leave the fenced area to be vetted. When an emergency need occurs, time is of the essence with these animals and having our own facility will literally be the most immediate and stress free option for them. Additionally, the clinic will allow us to use our cooperative care techniques to train our animals to go into the vet clinic even when there isn’t a need. This will better prepare them for when a real need occurs.

The details: The clinic would be a 12 x 16 ft shed kit that we would convert. Cost about: $3800. The lumber for the framework, and porch it would sit on, would be about $2500. The plumbing and electric would be $6500 (although we may only run plumbing for now since we can tap into a water line already in the animal pod. The electric would have to run 450 feet from our barn to the clinic.) If we can raise the full amount, we would be able to have electricity as well.

We will finish the inside of the shed through materials we get donated and our own volunteers. The labor for the framework would also be volunteer efforts. This clinic will enable us to offer a higher quality of care, less stress on our animals and provide our attending vet with a sterile facility, safely in our animal pod, to perform any needed surgeries or vetting.

Total cost: $12,800 includes electric.

We feel incredibly blessed to have so many animal loving followers. We are grateful for every donation, whether in the form of food, toys or funds. Everything keeps us running and our animals provided for. So, thank you very much!

We have a new request. A big one. We have a delicate matter; for the safety of our animals, we need a privacy fence on our back property. This will also help as a sound barrier. It’s 450 feet of fencing. Materials alone are about $6,000. We need to contract out the labor due to the size of the project and urgency. All of our volunteers have been working hard as well to remove honeysuckle in preparation for this project. We are trying to raise $10,000. This has become a top priority for the animals! Good fences make good neighbors.

Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to bring a wolf hybrid from Washington State to the Red. He has an interesting story that deserves a happy ending. Remus is the offspring of a wild pairing from Canada, where a male wolf got to an unaltered German Shepherd. A 501c3 pulled him, with a foster lined up, thinking he was a low content. That foster didn't work out and he has been long term fostered until a facility could be found. Nova needs a pen mate to bring her out of her shell. We need a social male. Red Riding Hood Rescue Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit that is entirely reliant on volunteers and donations. In short, we couldn't have expanded and thrived as much as we have within our first two years without the help of such wonderful donors. Now, to help with transporting our resident wolfdogs to the vet and rescuing new wolfdogs in need when they appear, The Red needs to raise money in order to get a transport vehicle fit for these guys.

We're hoping to raise $8500 by Halloween so that we can be ready to support our pups and take them where they need to go. This vehicle will help us bring our pups not only to veterinary facilities if they have emergency needs, it will also help us bring them to public events like the Middletown Art Show that we went to this month with Lava or bring them to local bike trails for a stroll.

Without a doubt, 99% of the calls we get to take in a wolfdog are due to an unsuspecting owner who went out and purchased a "piece of the wild" and thought it would be cool to own a "wolf" Despite a wolfdog being "part dog" they are obviously still "part wolf" And when the wolf part is revealed (jumping fences, digging huge holes in your yard, non-stop howling, skittish behavior) that's when the owner realizes they've "bitten off more than they can chew."

Such was the case with Charley who ended up getting loose from her owner in a suburb just outside of New Orleans. She ran loose for at least a week before being caught by the owner and that's when he realized that he had made a mistake and gave Charley up to a local rescuer. Villalobos Rescue Center was then contacted.

As many of you know, we do have a wolfdog sanctuary in Texas. But sadly we are completely full and receive daily pleas from around the country to take their wolfdog in need. So we needed to "expand the village" and began looking for another solution. That's when we found: the Red Riding Hood Project located in Ohio.

The RRHP is a fairly new facility and is USDA approved. They are still in the early stages but answered my plea to help Charley. Villalobos Rescue Center will be driving Charley to Ohio once we can help raise the very much-needed funds to help support Charley since she will go into sanctuary status and remain with the RRHP forever.

We are busting our seams. The 401 girls are howling for more space! So we gotta give it to them!

We have a $2000 Rhode Island match for the expansion of the 401 girls enclosure. Can we raise $2000 by July 21st to help us receive this match? We want to start building as soon as July 22nd! This is an important expansion as it will give Wiley and Willow a double wide space to run and play with a new climbing platform and tether ball too! This enclosure add-on will be built to allow us to provide separation options so that we can work with each pup individually for training (Miss Wiley likes to hog attention). And should same sex aggression set in (we hope not) we can quickly separate them to keep them safe but still side by side.

Any money raised above the $2000 needed for the match, will go towards building up to 3 more enclosures so we can accept more animals in need. We recently had to say ‘no’ to 2 animals in Rhode Island and numerous local animals due to no enclosure space or funds to build.
