Mia the TRIPODs amputation & medical costs

Sweet Mia came to Red Fern Animal Rescue after being abused and medically neglected by a man. Her ears were cropped with scissors, her ribs were showing and we quickly noticed she was missing most of her back left foot. She has gained 15 pounds in her foster home- she is such a foodie! Her foster noticed within the first week that she was only putting weight on that foot 50-70% of the time and she often licked and bit at it. She was put on oral supplements and medications to control the pain but this only partially improved her quality of life. Her x-ray confirmed arthritis and quite a few missing bones. Because of the complexity of her case, Mia was taken to 3 vets for their opinions. The decision was made that the most humane option was to amputate her leg so she can be pain free for the rest of her life. Mia is almost two weeks post op now and she’s making strides in her recovery! The tech team at the vet clinic say she’s a super star for her laser therapy sessions!
We will never truly know what she had to endure as a puppy but we are just so grateful to have saved her! Mia is a wonderful one year old pup with so much love to give and we are so excited to see her thrive as a tripod! The surgery + post op needs are quite expensive so the rescue really needs help from the community.
All funds raised will be used to pay off Mia’s veterinary bills and provide ongoing post op care like laser treatments.
