Rebuilding Together Washington County

My name is Joan Goldhammer and I have been involved as a volunteer board member and also as the executive director for 15 years, since the beginning of Rebuilding Together Washington County, Inc. in 1993. We have helped thousands of marginalized homeowners, many of whom were persons who use a wheelchair like Michael on our cover, and seniors. Our goal is to help provide a home that is safe and healthy for every person as we believe this is not a privilege, but a right. All of the homeowners that we assist must meet low/moderate income standards. The vast majority of the homeowners we assist fall into the extremely low-income range.

All of the repairs and accessibility modifications that we perform for people are done without any charge whatsoever to the homeowner. We are only able to do this because of businesses, civic and faith organizations, foundations, and individuals who support our work with donations. We could not accomplish any of our work without our wonderful skilled and general volunteers who donate their time, skills, and energy to help homeowners most in need of repairs and accessibility modifications. The repairs and modifications that we make can help older adults avoid falls which could result in injuries that often result in hospitalizations or even placement in a skilled nursing facility. We are always seeking additional funds so that we can assist more homeowners as we have over 75 applicants waiting to be visited to see if they qualify and if our volunteers have the skills to help them.
