Quality Affordable Homes

It has been almost 3 years since Mosaic CCDA began a housing program partnership with Quality Affordable Homes [QAH], a 501c3 non-profit with a similar mission which is “to work with local non-profits to build housing programs that provide quality affordable homes to low-to-moderate income individuals and families.” The ultimate goal is to build a vibrant sustainable housing program.

During the months of August and September we are in a fundraising goal to complete the renovation of 142 E. Britain and 332 Broadway. Progress has been made; heating and air conditioning units have been installed at the Britain house and interior demolition has began and YouthWorks has started the outside yard clean-up. Bids have been collected that includes repairing the enclosed porch at Broadway, as well as siding for both houses. We are pushing to complete work on the Broadway house during the summer and Britain in the fall.

We are asking our partners and community builders to help match a $50,000 donation blessing to support the completion of 142 E.Britain and 332 Broadway for Mosaic Communities and join our commitment to build the Berrien County donor base as we endeavor to increase home ownership in the community.

All 'Go-Fund-Me' proceeds go directly to the matching fund.

Mack and Sharon Brown, C0-Directors of The AFrican AMErican History & Literature Gallery, have signed an agreement with Dave Kool, the Director of QAH, to serve as Project Managers for this community building project. The Browns come as a team in which Mack’s Project Management experience with Verizon and Sharon’s 25 years experience in housing bring a great package.

Mosaic Communties' criteria and process will be followed and Sharon Brown will be working with Mosaic on homeowner selection and support for the Britain and Broadway houses.

Our first Community Transformation Tour was held on October10, 2020, with a focus around 'Reflection on Segregation.'

We are tentatively scheduling our second Community Transformation Tour on October 9, 2021, with a theme of “Why Urban Decline and What to Do about it.”
