Affordable and Emergency Housing for the LGBTQ+ Community in Providence, Safety in the Pursuit of Happiness
Providence is home to a vibrant LGBTQ+ community, yet many individuals of all ages are struggling to find safe, stable, and affordable housing. LGBTQ+ people are disproportionately affected by housing insecurity due to factors such as family rejection, discrimination, and limited access to supportive resources. This campaign aims to create a safe haven for the community by funding a new affordable housing project, located in Downtown Providence Rhode Island dedicated to meeting their needs.
The Problem: LGBTQ+ individuals, regardless of age, face a much higher risk of experiencing homelessness compared to their non-LGBTQ+ peers. Hundreds of young people every year in RI end up facing housing insecurity due to their sexual orientation, or gender identity. The demand for safe, affordable housing far exceeds the current supply. Without access to stable housing, members of the LGBTQ+ community face increased risks of mental health challenges, substance abuse, and exploitation.
Our Solution: We are launching an initiative to create affordable and emergency housing for LGBTQ+ individuals of all ages and allies. This project will not only provide safe and secure living spaces but also offer supportive services like music and dance therapy programs, counseling, job training, and community-building activities with our partners at the Trans-farm-ative Project. Our goal is to create an environment where residents can thrive and build a brighter future. At PVD House, we believe in safety in the pursuit of happiness, and we are committed to ensuring everyone has access to a safe and supportive home.
Why We Need Your Help Now: We are at a crucial point in securing the perfect location for PVD House—a building located in the heart of Downtown Providence. It’s a safe, local, and familiar area, surrounded by businesses that share our values and mission to support the LGBTQ+ community. This is the home we’ve been searching for, but we need your help to make it a reality.
In our journey to find the right space, we’ve lost other buildings in the area to buyers who are rapidly acquiring property, and we can’t afford to let this opportunity slip away. This location is ideal, and it’s vital that we secure it for this essential and necessary non-profit project. We are only $20,000 away from our down-payment goal. We don’t want to lose the money we have already put down and crowdfunding is our last hope to ensure that this building—this home—becomes a safe haven for LGBTQ+ individuals in Providence.
This is more than just a property; it’s the foundation of a community that will provide safety, stability, and a sense of belonging for people who have been marginalized for far too long. This building, with your help, will help so many of us stay alive and get to the next step in life.
