This past weekend, Spirit Lake, IA and the surrounding communities woke up to extreme flooding.
Torrential rainfall over the course of several days hit a fever pitch overnight on Friday. Many of our coworkers woke up to water or sewer sludge in their basements, some coworkers lost all personal property, and a few had near catastrophic damage to their homes making them unsafe and uninhabitable. It has yet to be determined if they will be able to return to their homes.
Thankfully, all of our coworkers and their families are alive and safe. Our facility in Spirit Lake is also fully operational.
We have been in touch with our coworkers to begin to understand the extent of the damage to them personally as well as to their communities where they live and play. The health and safety of our team members is our number one priority and we will continue to monitor the situation to ensure any immediate needs are met.
Many of you have asked how you can help and, after connecting with our coworkers and understanding their situation, we believe the best way to help is with basic incidentals and day-to-day support. Your assistance will help to ease their load as they try to put their lives and homes back together while navigating the complexity of insurance claims, FEMA, etc. Donating through the Foundation’s Go Fund Me page ensures 100% of the proceeds go directly to our team members in Spirit Lake.
In addition to supporting our coworkers directly, Pure Fishing will be partnering with local relief agencies to support Spirit Lake and the surrounding communities in the recovery and rebuilding process.
As always, we stand together with our Pure Fishing family in Spirit Lake and appreciate any support to help our team members in Iowa through this devastating time.
