Update on Jackpot:

Thank you all so much for your support with Jackpot's care. It is with a heavy heart that we must inform everyone that Jackpot has liver cancer. The vet informed the shelter that the best course of action is to minimize her suffering. She will be crossing over the rainbow bridge. The kindness and generosity that friends, family, and people in the community showed was very heartwarming. It was clear that Jackpot was loved by everyone that came into the store.

The shelter, puppykittynyc.org, that took Jackpot in when she was sick showed compassion, love, and patience. We are truly indebted to the volunteers at the shelter. The work that they do for the animals in need is not always seen. True heroes.

Jackpot has been the bodega cat on 48th and Skillman for ten years and a fixture of Sunnyside, Queens. We noticed she was very lethargic when we went into the store the last few weeks. Apparently In the last month her health has been declining. My boyfriend and I took her to the vet last Thursday on Aug 21, 2025. Jackpot's fur was extremely matted. Due to the severity of the matting, the Vet said that it was necessary to shave her coat. Upon removal of the matted fur, skin infections were discovered in multiple areas where the matting was dense. Jackpot also lost 4.7 lbs. Her blood work showed liver damage, dehydration, and bacterial infection in her stomach. The Vet gave us liver medication, probiotics, appetite supplements as well as a liquid nutrients to administer. The veterinarian didn’t think Jackpot should go back to the store as she needed long term care. We decided to bring her to the apartment as there were so many medications to give her. Jackpot had moments that were good, and she even purred! However, even with the food stimulator, Jackpot wasn't eating a lot, and when she did it wouldn’t always stay down. This made it hard to administer her meds as they were in her food. On Sunday Jackpot wasn’t eating at all. Realizing we weren’t able to give her the care she desperately needed, we had to look for other solutions. We had been in touch with the amazing and dedicated people at Puppy Kitty NYC during this whole process and they said that they would care for Jackpot. They would administer her medication, and she would be under veterinarian care. The store agreed this was the best decision for her as well. Jackpot is still not eating much, but we are hoping that her health starts to improve. She’s very frail.

Puppy Kitty NYC is doing everything possible to save Jackpot, but the costs are overwhelming. We’ve started this GoFundMe to help cover her life-saving treatment and give her the second chance she deserves. All proceeds will be sent to Puppy Kitty for Jackpot’s medical care.

If you find yourself at the polls in November, be on the lookout for a new possible bill to protect Bodega cats. These beloved animals deserve recognition and access to basic healthcare like vaccines.

In the meantime, please keep Jackpot in your thoughts. She needs all the positive energy, love, and healing energy.

A tiny kitten was found injured in a Con Edison yard, and her story has captured our hearts. After being rushed to the vet, it was determined she has trauma to her face and a broken leg. She’s been receiving critical care at the hospital for the past week, and tomorrow (12/13), she will undergo surgery costing $4,000.

Puppykittynycity rescue has generously taken her under their care, but they need our help to cover her mounting medical bills, including the hospital stay and surgery. All funds raised will go directly to her care and recovery.

In addition to helping this brave kitten, her family—her siblings and parents—still need to be trapped and spayed/neutered to prevent further litters. Your support will not only save her life but also make a difference for the entire colony.

The week of our wedding, life threw us a curveball in the form of a mama cat and her litter of kittens.

With family flying in from across the country/world, juggling our full time jobs, and preparing for a wedding, we really didn’t have any time left to spare. But as animal lovers, we just couldn’t turn away from their need. With the help of Nick’s parents, we worked tirelessly all week (late at night) to get these cats to safety.

While mama cat has been TNR’d (trap-neuter-release), her kittens needed immediate care—and little Eva-Lou most of all. Eva-Lou required urgent surgeries for her eye and hernia, alongside general veterinary care for her siblings.

Important to mention, this rescue wouldn’t have been possible without PuppyKittyNYCity. They were willing to take them in despite closed intake and order them treatment.

We’re now reaching out to you, our community of friends and fellow animal lovers, to help us cover their care.

All funds raised will go DIRECTLY to PuppyKittyNYCity to cover these cats’ veterinary care.

UPDATE:

Deli cat went to a foster and was pleased to be with another cat, warm and safe. Unfortunately - he had to be rushed to an emergency vet when he became lethargic and seemed to be in pain. These tests, ultra sound, and ER vet are very costly - but the rescue and foster didn't hesitate to rush him for care.

WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP NOW - even with a small donation. If TEN PEOPLE DONATED 10 DOLLARS IT WOULD PUSH US OVER THE GOAL AND COVER AT LEAST A PART OF THE VET FEES. THANK YOU!

Last week a Hell’s Kitchen neighbor reached out to me about a senior deli cat that was being neglected and abused. Poor guy was left behind by the previous owners and the new people not only didn’t want him, they didn’t feed him and removed food and bedding neighbors left for him. He was so starving and dehydrated that he was groggy and licking the air for relief. 

Imagine living your whole life in that deli, and then suddenly no one wants you there and sends you out in the freezing cold, takes away any kindness or food left by neighbors? 

To make it worse, an employee that got fired kicked the cat on the way out!  

The neighbors said since then kitty has lost almost half his body weight and wasn’t eating. This poor old kitty was left to find warmth on an empty shelf or in the basement.

So I met the neighbor and took this old gent out of harms way. And guess who stepped up to help save him? @puppykittyNYC!! 

He’s been to the vet and has some thyroid and health issues . He’s going to need medication and several more vet visits. 

The good news? He’s warm, feels safe, and is eating like a champ in @puppykittyNYC facility. 

Can you help raise money to cover his costs? @puppykittyNYC is at capacity and then some, but they still took him!
