* Please note: Although we have reached our goal we are still reaching out to people to give what they can.  Any overages are going to go to K-8th grade teachers for each of their classroom libraries.  We do not receive a budget for this either, so teachers spend their own money to enhance their classrooms, classroom libraries being a big part of that.  The teachers know that by providing access to a rich classroom library they promote greater amounts of reading, increased reading frequency, and more diverse reading experiences among their students, thus helping them to attain greater levels of reading achievement.

We are a small rural K-8 mountain school with a total enrollment of only 120 students. The Jefferson County school system uses Student Based Budgeting. This means allocated resources to schools based on their student counts.  Rural schools such as ours are at a significant disadvantage when these resources are only enough to keep the K-8 grades running with nothing left over for our school library.  Combined with decreased enrollment and fundraising challenges in 2020/21 due to Covid, our school library fund is now facing a deficit!  Our school librarian is using her own money to purchase basic office supplies just to keep the library going.  We are asking for the community’s help to raise the $3000 that town school libraries get on a yearly basis in order to buy newly released books, replace books that have outlived their shelf life, and office supplies.
