Help PS180 families affected by apartment fire
Last Friday (January 17), right around the corner from our school, there was a fire that destroyed apartments of THREE of our own PS/IS 180 families.
We are very thankful that everyone is OK, but some of the families lost everything.
One of the things we love the most about our school community is that when others need help, we are there to support them. The school administration has already been working with the affected families and our parent coordinator has already been organizing aid for them.
In addition to this, the PTA is raising funds specifically to help these families. One of the ways the PTA is doing this is through this Go-fund-me. Please give what you can and share with your network.
Please note that this is completely separate from other PTA fundraising activities that support programs in the school.
All of the money raised here will be given directly to the affected families.

Update 1: $5,000 is a preliminary goal. Let's get there so we can raise it higher! We have three affected families and want to make a significant contribution to each family.
Update 2: Donations of goods other than money. Many people have reached out with offers of clothing or furniture. At this time, the families are in temporary accommodation and are unable to take furniture donations. If you have furniture or other large items you want to donate, please contact me ([email redacted]) with an inventory of the items and if you have a hard date by which you need to be rid of your items. If possible, we will coordinate offers of large goods with when these families regain access to their apartments or find new accommodation. For clothing, we have the following information on the clothing needs of each family. If you have something that you think would fit and is in good condition, please reach out to me.
Family 1: 8th grade girl
Shoe size: Women 9 Or men’s 7
Clothing: shirt woman medium
The only pair of pants she salvaged were
(H&M) Pants size 29”
Family 2: 5th grade boy
Clothing Size: 12/14 or medium
6 1/2 shoes
Family 3: Pre-K girl & parents
Child clothing: 5T
Child shoes: 10C
Father: Shirts -XL, Pants -40/32, Shoes - 10.5
Mother: Shirts -L, Pants -16, Shoes -10
