Project Belize, Inc.

I am a Pediatric Hospital Medicine specialist who works at a children’s hospital in Minnesota. In addition to my commitment to bedside care, I strongly believe in the power of advocacy and service for those in need locally and globally. I will be returning to Belize for the third time to participate in an annual medical service trip with Project Belize.

Ms. Caroline Gruenstein (college student) and I are joining a group of volunteers in May 2024. Our duo has an additional advocacy project in mind which requires your generosity and support.

Many inhabitants of the remote villages we serve do not have shoes. Lack of shoes is a major risk factor for transmission of parasitic disease from the soil. Furthermore, individuals affected with poor circulation are at risk for injury and infection of their feet, often necessitating surgical incision and debridement.

Like all pediatricians, I strongly believe that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of a cure.” The shoes we plan to purchase are adjustable and come in five sizes. Kids and adults will benefit alike. Furthermore, as the child’s feet grow, the shoe can be adjusted accordingly.
