The social problem regarding childhood trauma and neglect has been daunting society for generations, and it is a national public health-crisis. There are a wide range of mental health and physical health-related repercussions that can result when children are exposed to trauma from a young age. As someone who is currently working towards a degree in the field of mental health, I have recognized the long-term impacts of childhood maltreatment and neglect. Childhood trauma and neglect are categorized as adverse childhood experiences that occur before the age of 18, and cause harm unto an individual's perceived or actual sense of safety or emotional well-being.
To provide a bit of context, a subsample in Cleveland, Ohio estimated 31% of children were investigated for maltreatment concerns, and 19.5% of this sample were able to press legal charges after Child Protective Services (CPS) continued investigations. Furthermore, the estimated prevalence of child maltreatment in the US is 12.5% by the time children reach 18 years old. However, these are only based on reported incidents. Many cases go underreported, thus making the statistics not as accurate as practitioners would prefer. Additionally, estimates have suggested that the prevalence of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) worldwide is between 3.0-4.4%.
By donating to Prevent Child Abuse America, we are contributing to children of the future. Any donation is greatly appreciated, and all donations are going towards assisting families in finding the necessary resources in several communities nationwide. This organization takes preventative measures in order to prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), child neglect, childhood physical abuse, and childhood sexual abuse. There are several different preventative measures that this organization takes to prevent each different kind of maltreatment, and many of these prevention strategies can be conducted via donations from the general public. Thank you so much for taking the time to read thus far, and I look forward to working to build healthier, stronger, and more supportive communities.
My goal is to raise at least $1,000 for this reputable organization by the time of my birthday this year (my birthday is on June 19th, so there is plenty of time!). I am asking all of my friends and family to please - and seriously - do not get me anything for my birthday, but donations to this organization would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much in advance for your time!
