Kalikot Landslide
PlayToHelp is partnering with DEPROSC-Nepal to raise 25000 USD to reconstruct houses for families devastated by the recent monsoon flood in Kalikot, Nepal. Rescue operations revealed the flood affected more than 1300 households, causing deaths, injuries, and displaced people, as the landslide destroyed close to 700 homes.

Jora S. Shahi is one person who not only lost a loved one but also their livelihood in the devastating landslide. Before the flood, his earnings from his shop were the source of his livelihood, along with a few agricultural activities. He also used to produce saplings of apple and walnut; however, a landslide destroyed around 10,000 apple saplings and 2000 walnut saplings. It also damaged ripe paddy crops that would support food sufficiency for the Shahi family for a few months. He also lost 1 buffalo and 10 goats that he reared at his home. The landslide caused loss of around NRs 23 lakhs (2.3 million) in his family.
The flood swept away Mr. Shahi’s house, retail shop, and farmland.
He is currently trying to locate his mother, who is still missing, and often goes back to the site of what was once his home, hoping to find her there.
Jora and his family of ten are now homeless and live in a relative’s house, but it is uncertain how long they can stay. Other family members supported Shahi in the shop and agriculture activities; however, everyone was left without any work after the incident. Although they receive food and clothing from the local government and private agencies, the assistance is temporary and focuses primarily on immediate relief. “I lost everything, including the hope of having my own home again,” says Mr. Shahi. Mr. Shahi is one of many who need help.
The landslide has washed away everything but the painful memories for many people, including Jora.
This holiday season, PlayToHelp partnered with DEPROSC-Nepal to reconstruct 25 houses based on the local community's priority.
Your help is needed to help Jora and others like him have shelter and protection. With your donation, we can accomplish that goal. DEPROSC-Nepal has already pledged 5000 USD.
All raised funds will support people in the Kalikot district with minimal administrative costs and no overhead. Let us be the ray of hope for the affected families this holiday season.
Thank you
